Apparently, a few minutes was too much time. As soon as I exit the tent, I see Murphy taking a piss on another guy. Sighing loudly, I realize that one conversation isn't going to change Murphy into a nice guy, nothing I can do will change his horrible past and seemingly bleak future, there is absolutely no way any of us can make him act like a... human being. Except when he's alone with me, his only friend.

The situation escalates, the other boy leaping up and yelling at him as people hold him back.

"You wanted a water break." I hear Murphy say, a smug look on his face. "Get back to work!" He yells a second later. I try to catch his eye, try to show him he's being an asshole, but again, I can't do shit to make him change.

Turning, I walk towards the entrance, sick of seeing my only friend within camp act like a complete piece of shit and needing some air. Bellamy's words stick with me and I know I can't be reckless or spend too much time away from camp. Just enough to get back to Lincoln and Tala to check in, and tell Lincoln of my plans. I quietly groan, dreading a conversation like that with him.

Before I know it, I've reached the end of camp, back to the entrance. A girl is playfully pushing another guy towards it, seemingly trying to convince him to exit.

"Hey!" I trot up to them, recognizing both from my first day here.

"Hey, I haven't seen you around..." The girl says, confusion on her face. It's gone a second later. "I'm Octavia Blake."

"Cal." I reply, awkwardly.

"Jasper. It's nice to meet you, Cal." The guy says. "Why don't we head back to help the others work on the wall?" Jasper turns and starts quickly walking towards the middle of camp. Octavia stops him before he gets very far.

"Oh no you don't." She grabs his arm and pulls him towards the door again. "Jasper won't go outside because of the... you know." Octavia mutters to me. I frown, remembering what Bellamy said about a guy named Jasper being attacked and quickly nodding.

"I can hear you, yknow." Jasper narrows his eyes at Octavia and she grins, taking his hand and leading him outside.

"It's just a few steps, okay? One foot in front of the other." She says, marching forward a little ways. I sneak outside next to Jasper, frowning as I see the fear in his eyes. I recognize that fear, that's most likely what I looked like when I woke up in Lincoln's cave.

"What's wrong?" Octavia asks.

"Hmm? Nothing." Jasper stutters, trying to put on a brave face for the pretty girl. "I'm good-great!"

"It's been a week, Jasper. You've been given a second chance." She continues forward.

"It's okay to be scared." I whisper to him. Glancing at me, Jasper gives me a smile. I understand and I want him to know that we're all scared, some maybe more than others, but it's all the same.

"Thanks." He says. As we're distracted by our own private conversation, Octavia screams. We both freeze. I resist the urge to run to her, but I know it wouldn't be smart.

"Octavia?" Jasper calls. He says her name again, and her screams stop. Both of us run to her, Jasper a little slower, still frightened.

"Octavia, are you okay?" I cry, running around a bend, Jasper right behind me. I yelp and Jasper curses as one of the 100 jumps out from behind a bush, his arm around Octavia and hand on her mouth.

"Jerk!" She yells at him, pushing him back. "Get the fuck out of here!" Turning, she walks after Jasper as he meanders back to camp, angry and rightly so.
