We arrived early at the NASA station. And I was a little surprised that the hallway was empty.
"Maybe we are a bit too early" said Steph.
I nodded and we both took a seat.
A few moment later, a tall, asian-looking girl came in, looked at us, and invited us in another room, with the move of a hand.
We were now in an office. The girl sat down at the desk, and looked at both of us.
"YOU are the couple?"
I looked at Steph. What did she want from us? It seemed like we are the only option, so what was her problem?
After the confusion disappeared, the girl continued.
"Look, girls, we need a couple that could multiply on the new planet. And you don't look like you could." She looked at us with so much disappointment, that she might as well just kill us on the spot.
I took a deep breath, ready to get up and leave. I don't want to spend another second looking at this ... This Fffriendly ass person.
Stephanie on the other hand, stood up, put her hands on the desk and politely started talking:
"Listen. Both of us are in a very awkward situation right now. So why don't you little piece of Shit! Consider the fact that WE are YOUR only option, and make your asian butt go get the forms!"
A little scared, the girl stumbled to a drawer, and pulled out some papers.
"Come back tomorrow with them." She muttered.
So we got out, and as we're walking down the street, Steph's hand holding mine, I start feeling really really embarrassed.
I looked down. The only way we could make it onto Panet Z was that girl at the desk to like us.
And Stephanie kind of... I don't even want to think about it.Anyway, we get home, and we spread the papers on the cofee table. They needed everything about us: from age and name, to allergies and favorite food, the size of clothes and adress, if we're patient or not. Everything needed to be on that paper.
"Would it be weird that we have different last names?" Asked Steph.
I smiled.
"They never said they wanted a married couple."She looked at me, and I couldn't understand the expression on her face. It was something between amusement and disappointment, that I couldn't make out.
She finally let out a big sigh, making me feel like it's time to move on.We completed our forms in an anxiety-packed silence, then quitely brushed our theeth together, avoiding each other's eyes in the mirror. We got in bed simultaneously, dragging the cold blanket above us, leaving only the dead silence of sleep behind.
