An early morning spring breeze whisks leaves off the top of the bank building. A tall and lithe boy sits on the edge of the roof with his feet dangling from the edge. He drops a leaf and watches it sway in the wind until it lands on the path below. A flood of people dressed in sea green and black and grey go past headed towards the offices. The Capricorn who are wearing black and grey all walk towards the court houses and law firms. The Pisces go into the office buildings and the bank.
A woman exits a door out onto the roof and pauses watching the boy.
"Nathan. I'm going to have to ask you to come down from here. It's time for your history lesson."
He sighs but doesn't look up from where he sits. "I know our history. It's not like it has been imprinted in my mind since the moment I could be taught."
"Well if you know it so much would you mind telling me how Cassiopeia came to be?"
He stands up and marches towards her with clear aggression in his eyes "In the year 2050 the environmental state collapsed, leaving 98 percent of the world uninhabitable. Due to this The Earth Wars began. After a few years of fighting, the war was won by a large group who based their belief on astrology. These people created Cassiopeia, and designed the Heirachy Of Stars."
She stands there and doesn't say a word. She just looks him up and down with a shadow of sympathy on her ageing features.
"I understand what you are going through Nathan. You are a future king. That can't be easy, but you need to remember that there are people who can help you." She turns around and walks back towards the door she came through. "You can have the day off if you wish. Just be back by midnight."The majority of the park is empty. Some students mull around the grass studying and chattering with one another, but Nathan sits on a bench, alone, and tears a bread loaf apart, throwing pieces to the ducks.
He seems out of place from the Virgos, not only because they wear brown and green while he dresses in pastel blue, but because they learn science so they can find new things out about the world, and Nathan learns how to dictate a city. It's not like he wants the life he got. He would have happily stayed with his Pisces parents, most people would have loved to stay with their parents and their family. But that's not the way Cassiopeia works.
He stands up and tosses the last of the bread to the ducks before trudging out of the park and into the streets. The bank clock chimes eleven times before going quiet again. The ringing of the bell reminds him that he is alone in the streets. Nathan sighs deeply before walking into a place he visits regularly; Gemini Casino. The room is flooded with yellow. Not many other colours appear as most of the zodiacs try to avoid the Gemini areas of the city. He goes to open the door of the men's bathroom but someone pulls it open first.
"Does everyone want to fuck up my morning?" A rather ruffled Gemini walks through him before going behind the bar and yelling at a girl serving customers. Shaking his head Nathan washes his hands and exits the bathroom making a beeline to the bar.
"Hey can I get a-" he gets cut off.
"Jay come serve this," the angry guy gives Nathan a long and hating stare, "Taurus."
Nathan wipes his face and runs his hands through his hair while breathing deeply. This is a regular occurrence, not many people like Taurus, but this is different. Of course the lowest three zodiacs have a deep hatred of the leaders but usually Geminis are kindhearted.
"Don't worry about him he's like that to everyone. Though normally he sucks it up. I wonder what's different with you?"
"You're a Scorpio?" He asks her.
"Oh yeah. I like working here, not only do I get free drinks on my days off but with all the cute girls here, I end up with so many coffee dates." She babbles along messing with her hair.
"Oh so you're into girls."
She snorts. "Who isn't? They're cute AF!"
"Uh yeah. Girls. Love them. So great."
"Oh! You're into guys!" She gasps beginning to laugh hysterically.
The angry boy walks around the corner and yells at Jay "Jay! I swear to god you need to shut up and get on with your job!"
"Who's he?" Nathan asks watching the hallway that he disappeared down.
"Him? That's Jaxon. I think I might know why he seems to hate you so much." Jay smiles with a devilish glint in her eye.
"What could it possibly be?"
"Well you see, Jaxon is about as straight as a rainbow, and he hates Taurus anyway, I think that he might have a bit of a crush. On you."
"What? That's not possible." Nathan mumbles. "Nobody ever likes me. Nathan Taurus the next king of Cassiopeia."
"Yeah. That's gonna make him hate his feelings for you even more."
Nathan scoffs. "Give me a coke and rum. Or seven."
