For the whole day, Maya had to deal with pointing fingers, dirty looks, short whispers, people judging her as she walked by, and sometimes even the occasional name calling she would get thrown her way. But for the entire day Maya held her head up high and kept walking. Riley of course, seemed to treat her like she was going to break at any moment.

"Maya please let me take you home." Riley begged her as people walked by them and laughed.

"No." Was Maya's simple answer as she kept throwing books in her locker getting ready for her next class. Riley sighed and looked desperate for help.

"Nugget, go home." Zay came up from behind the girls, his grip on his book bag a bit more tight than usual. Maya shook her head.

"No." She answered again. Riley and Zay shared a look before Maya closed and locker and turned around. "The reactions that this school is having is just ridiculous. Yes I realize what the situation looks like, but they don't know the whole story. And instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt, they assume that what I'm just some cold hearted, two time, gold digging slut. People who have known me since grade school are even assuming just so they can share the gossip and pretend that they're someone. Well no, I'm not giving in, I'm not letting them win. Not anymore."

Maya didn't wait for Zay or Riley to respond. She simply tightened her grip on her books and walked off to class. Zay's eyes widening even bigger as Maya not so subtly flashed her engagement ring to Leo and his friends as she walked by them.

"She's gone crazy." Zay said shaking his head. A slow smile started forming on Riley's lips as she shook her head.

"Nope. She's just Maya."

Later on at lunch, Maya, Riley and Zay were all theee eating their lunches quietly as everyone was either staring or kept glancing back at them. Even the lunch ladies had been quite rude to Maya when she walked through the line to grab her food. Of course this didn't surprise her, Leo was a very beloved student.

Maya kept her act up as if she didn't notice the looks and names she was getting called. Maya looked up and saw Riley was staring at the engagement ring on her finger. Maya sighed.

"Everyone knows anyway, might as well wear it. Besides it's not like it's any of their business anyway." Maya was tired of getting walked all over, judged, condemned for a decision she didn't even make. But there wasn't anything she could do about it. She had to live with it, they didn't. In a month school would let out for the summer and everyone will come back next year not even remembering Maya. But she would be on her honeymoon with a man that she was being forced to love. Not anymore. She was not going to let them take what little dignity she had left.

Maya got hit in the face by a wadded up piece of paper. Riley looked concerned, Zay looked ready to kill as he looked around the cafeteria to see who had thrown it. May opened it up and gritted her teeth at the words on the paper.

"When's my turn on the train?" ;) -B

'B' no doubt for Brad Jones, captain of the football team. Maya looked over at his table to see him smirking at her.

"That's it." Maya said before she got up from her seat and stood on the table. Riley shrieked as Zay pulled his food out. Some people seeing what Maya was doing, pulled their phones out and started recording.

"What's she doing?" One girl whispered from the table near by.

"Probably announcing the next Friday night she's free." Another voice chuckled causing a glare from Zay.

"Don't you people have anything better to do with your lives!" Maya yelled out as the whole cafeteria went silent. "I've been at this school for four years and all that I've seen is kids knocking down other kids for events that took place in their lives! Bethany Pruitt for example!" Some of the older kids started to laugh as they remembered Bethany who had to transfer schools a couple of years ago because of the bullying. "Everyone loved to make fun of Bethany because she got pregnant in her sophomore year of high school! You guys called her a slut, whore, you started leaving nasty notes in her locker, but none of you ever thought to think or ask the question of if she was raped!" Everyone became silent. "Yeah, she was raped behind the school because she was the last one leaving after a decathlon practice."

Some kids coughed as they tried to put their heads down to keep from being noticed because they were some of the ones that participated in teasing Bethany.

"And what about Dean Collins!" This time there wasn't anyone who said anything. "You guys remember the freshman that killed himself last year because you guys bullied him for his clothes having holes and dirt in them! Well would you ever guess that his dad was an abusive father at home, and his mom couldn't afford to get him anything new? Not even from a goodwill, or a Salvation Army because for them it was either food, or clothes!" Maya had everyone's attention as they all watched Maya. Not even Cory, who could get in trouble for sharing this information with maya and Riley, was saying anything.

"And let's not forget Kevin Carter, who ended up killing himself and two other kids in the gym earlier this year because the football team," Maya stopped to turn to where Brad Jones was sitting with a bunch of other players from the football team. "The football team decided to beat him up in front of the whole school for coming out as gay. But nobody stopped to ask about the cuts on his arm because he already hated himself so much."

You could hear a pin drop in the cafeteria as everyone wasn't moving or saying a word. Maya shook her head at the football team, who were all now looking at table and playing with their food with their forks.

"You all disgust me." Maya stated. "Nobody has the right to judge or make fun of other people just because they live their lives just a little differently. You all want to judge me for making my decisions, fine. But you better stop pretending that you haven't done just as bad or even worse than what I have."

Maya stepped down from the table and back into her seat. Zay and Riley were smiling. Maya looked over at Cory who seemed to have a look or pride on his face at Maya before winking at her and walking out of the cafeteria.

After a minute chatter started back up as everyone started talking again. Maya felt a weight had been lifted off her shoulders. She looked around and saw that everyone wasn't even daring to look at her, especially Brad Jones. Maya smiled and started to finish her lunch.

She wouldn't be pushed around in this school any longer.
