I probably should have slept, I thought. It was somewhen in the morning, the girl I had met— Beth— was already gone, on her way to thank her savior. I was glad she had given me her phone number as I felt like we were going to develop a much deeper friendship if we stuck together. She did seem special to me, kind but strong, anything but helpless in the end.

I was grateful for the new friend, I would always let her stay over again. Nevertheless, even though I didn't have to sleep much, it had been a long while since I'd had some of it and I kept massaging my temples in annoyance when the Winchesters and I had settled down on my couch.

For reference, I had never met these men before, though I did know a friend of them, Bobby Singer, who had once tried to introduce them to me and team us up for a hunt. What could I say, I was late and couldn't do anything but watch the brothers finish the job without me. So, no getting to know the Winchesters. Until then, that was.

Supposedly, they had dug deep into our small town's secrets and occurrences, getting wind of the many vampires around eventually. Finally then, Bobby had been able to find and give them the address of my apartment and they had announced themselves for the next day, leaving me little to no choice but to give in and invite them over to tell them about the big picture here. I had offered them a drink and while getting a beer for the older brother, Dean, and a simple water for Sam, I quickly texted my new friend.

Hey, it's Lyra! Just in case you ever get to know the Winchester dudes— the ones that are over right now— do me a favor and don't mention my lack of genetic humanity, I'm going to tell them myself if I feel like it. Don't trust them as much as I do you. How's thanking Mr. St. John going? ;)

Releasing a sigh I didn't know I'd held back, I grabbed the bottle and the glass and made my way back to the living room, catching Dean going through the pictures in a photo album I had in my shelf. "You really want your ass beat, huh?", I questioned and Dean spun around, clumsily grabbing the album as it almost fell down to the ground due to his sudden movement. Sam giggled in the corner, dark hair falling into his face so he had to push it back behind his ears.

"Kinky", Dean grumbled and sat down next to Sam, looking up at me through thick lashes. "Your beer", I announced and huffed when he took it, handing the water to Sam. "So, what's the deal, what brings you here? Except Bobby, I mean."

"Well", Dean started, "since you seem to be such a pro at your job, princess—"

Sam interrupted him, "Vampires." I raised an eyebrow at the quiet bickering between the boys that occurred for a moment and sat down, swinging one leg over the other and leaning back into the armchair. "Vampires, yes. What about them?"

"I hear there are a lot of them around here." Dean chugged half his beer before continuing. "That hard to catch?"

"You know", I snarled, "those are mighty brave words for someone who broke the first seal to set Lucifer free."

Dean pursed his lips and Sam slammed his hand against his forehead, rubbing the bridge of his nose after. "It might be hard to believe, but not all of the vampires around here are monsters. There are some who haven't forgotten they used to be human, they still have their jobs, they feed on humans that allow it and without killing them, which is possible indeed. So that is why there are so many vampires around. We live in harmony, which is better than a constant war, don't you think? Of course, there are exceptions, but, you know. Just yesterday, my friend was saved from a vampire— by a vampire. Which is where she is headed right now, by the way."

"Well, either your friend is insane or she has a vampire kink", Dean exclaimed and Sam honestly looked like he was about to grab the beer bottle to crush it into his brother's skull.
