"So James, tell us about yourself."
The group eagerly awaited an answer to Louis's question. It was early evening; everyone sat on the various couches and chairs outside.
James shifted uncomfortably as everyone stared at him. "Uh..."
"It's okay, James, you don't have to answer," Clementine assured him. "For now, we could play a game?" She eyed Louis.
"I like that idea," he said, grinning. He slipped a stack of cards out of his pocket, then stopped himself. "Actually, how about a different game?"
"What were you thinking?" Ruby asked.
"Hide and seek."
"Hide and seek?" Violet repeated, snorting. "What are we, eight?"
"I, actually, am nine." Louis flipped the collar of his jacket proudly.
Clementine looked around the group, who all shrugged and nodded in reply. "Yeah, why not?" she said, standing up.
"I'll count," Violet said.

Everyone spread out and Violet began counting. Clem found AJ and took his hand.
"Where are we going?" he asked.
"Shhh!"
"Sorry, where are we going?" he whispered.
Clem didn't answer; instead, she lead him to an area she had found on her first day at the school. Outside the gate, along the wall, there was a small hole in the wall. The pair climbed in and waited.
"98...99...100. Ready or not, here I come, fuckers." They heard Violet begin walking in another direction.
AJ laughed. "This is fun. How did you find this place?"
"On the first day we came here, I saw it. Thought it would be good for hiding from walkers or something, like if we got trapped outside the school."
AJ nodded.

They waited. About ten minutes passed. Then ten more. They finally heard Violet call, "AJ, Clem, where the fuck are you? You guys won, get out here already!!"
Grinning, AJ climbed out of the wall. He offered a hand to Clem, who took it and lifted herself out.
"We're coming!" she yelled back.
The two walked back to the gate in silence. Just before they made it there, Clem heard something and stopped abruptly.
"Did you hear that?" she asked quietly.
AJ shook his head, then his eyes widened. "Yes."
A rustling sound came from within the trees. It was too fast to be a walker; it almost sounded like someone running.
"You go back," she told AJ, who immediately began arguing.
"But I should go too!"
"No buts. I'm gonna go check it out. Go rub it in their faces that we won."
He groaned and ran back inside the school, leaving Clem alone in the darkening forest. Drawing her knife, she followed the sound. As the rustling got louder, she decided she should make herself obvious, so she wouldn't get attacked.
"Hello? Is someone there?" she called, spinning around. No one answered.
Suddenly, she heard a loud "thunk" next to her. Whipping her head around, she saw a knife speared into a tree. Someone had just thrown it and narrowly missed her.
"What the hell..." she muttered.
Clem stepped toward the tree, but before she made it there, something hit her head. Hard. She fell to the ground, groaning as the pain set in.
"You're coming with me," a voice above her said.
She tried to object, but her consciousnesses was slowly slipping away.
She was dragged by her feet along the bumpy ground. The forest around her was losing light rapidly.

And just like that, it was dark.
