Kevin Speaks

Cody and Kevin walked outside and wandered behind the machine shed, talking about their experience. Both teens knew the spaceship changed them, but they didn't understand how. Kevin told Cody he was talking like his dad, and Cody responded that Kevin sounded like Miss Carol, their teacher. Their thoughts and speech were becoming what others would call normal.

Kevin didn't remember ever being normal. He always knew he was different. As a youngster he could see the worry in his Mom and Dad's faces. It's strange, but he understood more than they ever realized. Being handicapped was normal; however, not being able to speak and think or read with clarity was frustrating for him and his parents. Kevin's life was frustrating, but he always felt loved and made the best of it. Everyone loved him and he returned their love but his world was filled with hate. He was always being called names and bullied by normal kids, never understanding why they wanted to hurt him.

The two teens had been best friends since they were kids in grade school. They attended the same church, and both had lost a parent. The most hurtful experience Kevin could remember was losing his Mom to cancer. Having lost his Dad, Cody understood Kevin's feelings.

God is good, God is great. God took my Mom and left me with hate. Kevin wondered why a loving God would take his Mom away when he needed her so much. Why did he take Cody's dad away when he needed him? This is something I hope to figure out soon. I also want to figure out what the heck is happening to us, Kevin thought to himself.

"Gee, Cody, are we getting smarter or something?" he asked.

Cody said he thought they were. "We're both thinking clearer, we sound different, my thoughts make much more sense than they used to, and since we touched the ship, you haven't said you don't pee your pants."

"I think Uncle Roy and that Gary guy have left," Kevin told Cody.

They went in through the small side door so the big shed door remained shut. It took a while for their eyes to adjust, but there it was.

Kevin said, "I bet the door is along the left side."

He felt the surface and found what felt like a handprint. It was not visible, but he could feel his hand pull against the surface. Kevin left his hand there for a minute and a wedge from the side of the ship lifted, and steps lowered down to the floor of the machine shed.

Cody smiled and said, "I bet that's the door."

They both laughed and started up the steps. Inside the ship it was bright. Kevin thought it would be dark but they could see well. There was light coming from the front of the ship, and five chairs curved around the window. The chairs set at what looked like a table or counter top. There were no visible controls, just a smooth black surface.

The two sat down, giggling like two kids.

"Well, are we ready to take off captain?" Cody asked with a huge grin.

When they placed their hands on the flat surface, both became mesmerized again. It was as if they were being drawn into the computer of the spaceship. Their eyes closed; however, they could see images in their minds. It was like watching a disjointed movie, but they knew knowledge was filling their minds, knowledge about the spaceship and the people of Elysium, a planet favored by God. The Elysians were God's chosen angels after the creation, and God sent them across the universe to make sure that his people survived. The Elysians were the caretakers of the Universe over 400 million years ago. They looked like humans and dressed in clean white tunics and pants. Being of many ethnicities, they spoke one language and had only one God. Their Bible was the original word of God and Kevin and Cody could read it any time they wanted.
