Loose Ends On Moon Base

Opening his eyes in the morning, Kevin could not remember where he was. His dreams of home were so vivid he still felt like he was at home in his bedroom... on Earth. It took a few moments to get his bearings. Suddenly, he leapt to his feet, jumped into the shower, put on some cologne and deodorant, and found old jeans and a tee-shirt. He ran out the door and then realized he had forgotten his shoes. He ran back, put on his Nikes and ran out again. At Lessele's door he knocked, breathing hard from running. She opened the door, looking as radiant and beautiful as she did the night before.

"You're late." she said with a smile. "Shall we head down to breakfast?"

Kevin leaned over and gave her a good morning kiss, "Yes that would be nice. And you look beautiful this morning."

Standing in line at the counter, Kathy and Cody came up behind them. Kathy looked at Kevin and realized he was with the beautiful blonde. She was surprised, but tried not to show it.

"Hi Kathy. I don't think you and Cody have met Lessele. Lessele is from Elysium and we have become good friends." Kevin turned to Lessele, "These are two of my best friends from Earth. You may have seen them on television."

"I sure have," Lessele said. "I loved your show on the root vegetables, Kathy. You are such a natural on television. How do you stay so calm, even when the food is burning?"

Kathy laughed. "Yes, don't you love live television? You know, though, the vegetables didn't have a burnt taste. They were delicious though a little dark." She liked Lessele, and so did Cody. The two couples picked up their breakfast and sat together at a table near the waterfall.

It was a romantic, enchanted morning. The revolution was over and now everyone felt free to say and think as they wished. Several people in one group talked religion while another group debated politics.

Kevin looked at Cody, "Doesn't that sound remind you of home? Everyone is expressing their opinion and listening to their friend's comments."

Cody smiled. "Kevin, are you getting homesick?"

"I think so. I had a vivid dream last night," he blushed, "Actually a couple, but the one dream was about being home with Dad and Liz. It was so real that when I woke up, I thought being here must be a dream." His hand was pointing toward the surrounding scene.

Cody looked around and hummed the tune of a science-fiction soundtrack. "Yes, perhaps this is all a dream, and you are still sleeping, Kevin. Wake up! Smell the coffee!" He laughed and slapped Kevin on the back. "It isn't a dream, buddy. We are here and we kicked butt. Oh, and I want to hear all about those other dreams you had last night."

"In your dreams," Kevin said with a wicked smile.

Kathy and Lessele talked as the boys kidded each other. When they finished their breakfast, they each headed for their office.

As Kevin sat at the desk, Ricky walked in and joined him. "I understand I am taking your place here. Darden said you would clue me in on all the base's secrets," he said with a grin.

"Oh, and congrats on the beautiful woman you were with last night. Did you score?"

"Ricky, you know I believe in don't ask and don't tell," Kevin said, and smiled. "So are you sure I can't talk you out of staying? We will really miss you down on the farm."

"How can you go back to Bay Port when you have been on the far side of the universe, Kevin? I don't understand. There is so much to discover here, and I can't wait to get started." Ricky said.
