After everyone discovered that aliens existed, humanity decided to put their differences aside. They realized that we are all basically the same (even aliens and artificial intelligent machines). We all care for our young, want to feel safe, feel useful, and feel loved. Countries began to unite with their neighbors. The individual countries still ruled themselves but border issues were gone. It was much like if neighbors removed their fences; they still owned their own house, but they were more friendly with each other.
Canada, the United States, Mexico, and the rest of North and South America became the American Alliance. Citizens of those countries could freely travel the countries of the Alliance, but to travel outside of the Alliance they would still need a passport. Trade issues were also resolved quickly.
Other countries soon followed. The countries around Africa became the United Lands of Africa. All of Asia, and Japan, became the Asian Coalition. Soon everyone was friends—alien, human, cybernetic, other—and the countries joined together in harmony.
Though some conspiracy theorists believe the world's governments released a modified virus which forced everyone to get along, but that's just silly...isn't it?
Of course not! It's just coincidence that the strongest "brotherly" bonds are among neighboring countries and that the connections stop at large bodies of water of in isolated areas. It was totally not because when the public found out that aliens, monsters, and superhumans existed they freaked out and nearly destroyed civilization with their riots and hate crimes. That the war between normal people and "the others" got so bad the world's governments had to reset everyone.
Nope, hundreds of years of distrust, racism, inequality, and political and religious turbulence disappeared overnight because...uh...because...why was it again?
Just stick to the script and don't ask questions.
