It started as any normal 11th birthday a girl could have, I was in my bedroom, having breakfast, checking my phone, anyways nothing out of the ordinary.

That is until I received a letter, not the email kind of letter, no a real enveloped letter. My first thought was that it felt sketchy as hell. I opened the letter, it was my Hogwarts acceptance letter! I ran down to my mother and hugged her.

I couldn't believe she actually bought me one of those fake Hogwarts letters, I have been a Potterhead my whole life, to say the least, this was the most amazing birthday gift ever!

"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I said to my mother embracing her tightly.

"I love the sudden affection but what for? I haven't even given you your birthday present." She said while a smile graced her face.

"But mother, didn't you buy me this fake Hogwarts letter?" I asked, maybe it wasn't her maybe one my friends or family members bought it for me, who knows? and honestly who cares! I have a Hogwarts letter!

"No, no I didn't maybe your father did, you can ask him when he's home."

"Father's coming back from his business trip today!" I haven't seen my father in two weeks and I miss him like hell.

"By the way, darling I got you something." My mother said handing me a small, silky velvet box. "Go on open it" she ushered, apparently excited.

I opened the box and a marvelous silver necklace with an amethyst crystal laying in its center, my birthstone. I stared in awe and then engulfed my mother in the biggest tightest hug ever. "I absolutely adore it mother, thank you," I said kissing her on the cheek. She clasped the necklace around my neck and kissed me on my cheek.

"I have to head back to my bedroom and change for my ball later," I said going upstairs towards my room.

Once I entered my room I looked at my letter excitedly, it read...

I opened it slowly,  for I was too afraid of ripping it,

I was already teary-eyed, and when I  turned over the letter I found the supply list, and that sent me over the moon, how realistic it all is.

Once I read and re-read and even smelt the letter I decided that I have to leave the letter alone and change. I changed into my newest outfit, a well fitted pink knee-long dress, but since it was winter and winter in London was cold, I paired it with a nice faux fur white jacket, to keep me warm and cozy during my party that will be held in my reception of course.

You see father has a lot of money and goes on a lot of business trips, so mother and I can live freely with no worries or stress about finances. My role is easy, all I have to do is attend balls, and celebratory parties, gatherings, and all that stuff, with my mother and father. Look pretty, talk when spoken to, and  stay out of trouble, we were rich, powerful and had a reputation, so we had to keep that reputation.

I had to have a well and healthy shape, nice expensive clothes, and speak like a lady. I was treated like a princess and was expected to act like one because let's face it if there was a royal hierarchy in my father's field of work, we'd be top of the top.

After my birthday ball, my father called me to his study, upon entering I was hit with the smell of strong tobacco, father's an old soul.

"Ella, your mother informed me of the.. letter you received today, mind explaining who bought it for you, because neither I nor your mother have." My father spoke to me rigidly, as if he's commanding me, which is well the only way he addresses my mother and I, sadly.

"I don't know father, I thought you bought it for me."

"Well I sure as hell haven't, I won't be feeding your fantasy non sense obsession, because as you may have noted, I don't approve of you reading such stupid insignificant books, these aren't literature, these are useless pastimes that fill your head with rubbish and make you go crazy." He said sternly, and I felt my eyes watering, always like that my father, always robotic, always discriminating my choices, I will never really be enough for him.

"I'm sorry father." I said "May I be excused?"

"Go ahead, but before you go to sleep, I would like you to bring me that nonsense letter of yours." He said, and I physically felt my heart stop and drop to my feet. I'm sure my face was as white as a snowflake, because I know he's going to burn my letter. I know it.

"Ella." He said, bringing me out of my panicked state, "Now!" He ordered. And at once I left his study and raced up to my room, sobbing, crying but nonetheless, obeying my father, because I don't like when he gets mad.

**

Upon giving my father the letter, he threw it in the fire in our living room, and I just watched my most prized possession get burned, right in front of my eyes, then my father left me crying and sobbing on the floor in front of the fire.

The next day, 3 more letters came flying through my window, and this time I figured it out, it was never a fake letter.
