Ink kissed him, full on the lips. Error tried to jerk back, to get away, but he was so astonished that he was frozen to the spot and couldn't move. Ink's cold fingers worked their way up his spine and to the base of his skull, freezing but gentle. He pressed his body against Error's, his warmth flooding into the black skeleton, and they fit perfectly.

He drew away slowly, beaming. "Okay, I'm sleepy now,"

"Um..." Error winced. "You can... sleep on my s-sofa, I g-guess,"

He had to carry Ink over to his patterned black and red sofa, and dumped him on it. Ink tried to pull Error onto the sofa with him, but the black skeleton sternly backed away. He created a portal to the AU where he killed Alphys and Undyne (he couldn't remember what it was called, but he could recall the coordinates) and was about to stride through and get Ink the rest of his feelings back, when a voice stopped him.

"Can you please just stay here until I fall asleep, Error? I don't want nightmares again," Ink whimpered.

"SERIOUSLY?! Fine!!" Error threw his head back and stared at the empty sky, frustratedly. Ink pulled out his paintbrush and began to draw a sky, a night sky full of stars, above his head.

Patiently, Error sat down on the floor in front of the sofa and watched him draw. Ink was amazingly good, and the stars looked so real that Error wondered if he'd made a portal to Outertale or something.

Error's gaze travelled slowly to Ink, the skeleton that had just kissed him. It was odd, and there was a strange feeling inside of Error, and he hated it. He felt like blasting Ink into oblivion, and kind of wished he'd done that at the start, when he thought that Ink was just a random intruder. Now, it was too late to go back.

Ink looked so peaceful and happy under the stars, but there were deep shadows under his eyes and his pupils were pink. They slowly closed as he drifted into sleep, and Error watched the soundless rising and falling of his ribcage for a few minutes as he breathed, then got up and stepped through his portal.

...

The AU was just the same as he'd left it, just without the chemist shop at the corner of the street. Instead, there was a new shop, some sort of human one, no doubt. He ambled about, found a monster, and asked them if there were any new healers or chemists to replace the old ones.

"Not really. We only have Toriel now, if you're hurt," the monster replied sadly. "Someone murdered both Alphys and Undyne,"

Error shuddered. He had. And now he needed them, but they were dead. Ink was right when he said that he would regret it.

Next, the black skeleton tried a different AU. He found Alphys and asked her if she'd ever met Ink.

"I-Ink? Well, y-yes, I have," she mumbled.

"Do you remember the vials strapped over his chest?" Error asked, trying to sound kind but failing miserably.

Alphys nodded vigorously. "Yes, th-the elixirs... they g-give him e-emotions,"

"Can you make more? A ton have been smashed and the people who used to make them are d--" Error almost gave away a pretty unfriendly detail. He corrected it speedily, "Done with that career."

"Oh, um... I n-need to study one f-first... but w-what if I can't d-do it?" she whined.

Error wished that somewhere, in some AU, there was an Alphys who didn't act like this. Then he remembered Underswap, and was grateful for someone that had that idea.

"You need a vial of it?" Error guessed.

Alphys simply nodded.

"I'll be right back,"

...

It was easy to snatch the rose-red vial off of Ink's sleeping body, he didn't notice it. Error handed the vial over to Alphys then warned her, "If you turn out to be evil, or you break it, you're gonna have a bad time,"

She cowered away, flinching as she took the vial to her lab.

"Oh and don't forget! I need all the feelings, not just that one!" Error called after her as she left.

...

When Error got back to Ink for the second time that night, he was screaming and kicking the air. His eyes were still scrunched shut, but his scream was so painfully loud that Error decided to wake him up. Painfully loud, that was why. It was definitely nothing to do with the fact that Error couldn't stand the pained, hurt noises from Ink, the way he acted like he was about to be brutally murdered any second.

"Ink wake up, it's just a nightmare," Error told him, shaking his shoulders.

Still fast asleep, Ink quieted down, and stopped kicking. He murmured softly, "Error..."

"Okay, nevermind, don't wake up," the other skeleton shrugged, taking his hands slowly away from Ink, and feeling heat rush up in his cheekbones. He frowned. That was abnormal.

"Error... stay, please... no, don't go... DON'T GO!" and Ink was screaming and thrashing about again.

Error sprang forward and pounced on his shoulders. "Ink, stop!"

However this time, Ink didn't relax under his touch and his voice, only screamed louder, the slurred words getting clearer and clearer. "I'M SORRY! PLEASE DON'T LEAVE ME!"

How come these dark emotions still worked when he was asleep? They certainly didn't work when he was awake, Error thought to himself as he tried to pin down Ink's arms and legs.

"Ink, I, uhh..." Error tried to say calming things, although he sucked at it. "I forgive you or whatever, and I'm right here, I'm not going anywhere,"

This seemed to work. "Really? You swear?" Ink murmured, his tone so exhausted with sleep that it was hard to decipher the words.

"I swear," promised Error. Ink lapsed into a still silence, and Error eased the pressure on his shoulders.

...

Error woke up, lying on top of Ink on his sofa, with Ink's arms tight around his waist. At first, he was going to punch Ink in the face, when he remembered that Ink wasn't himself. He got up, sliding cautiously out of his arms, and created a portal back to the AU he'd been to last night.

"Error, where are you going?" Ink asked sadly from behind him. He'd woken up at last.

"To get your emotions back. I'll be back at some point," he said.

Ink sniffled, "Please don't be long," then he giggled. "Did you enjoy yesterday?"

"No, not at all," Error snapped, and the last look he saw on Ink's face was one of hurt.

...

"H-here, I tried m-my best, b-but if they don't w-work, f-feel free to, er, c-come back," Alphys stammered, as she handed Error the vials. "D-do... I g-get anything..."

"You mean a pay?" Error smiled unkindly. "Nope,"

Alphys didn't argue, she just bowed her head and let him pass without another word.
