I tapped my foot to the beat of the music blaring through my ears. I took a headphone out of my ear as an airline assistant led the others and I onto to the plane. We handed our tickets and boarding passes over. We made our way down the ramp and into the passenger jet. I sat next to the aisle after putting my duffel in the overhead compartment. I take my laptop out and set the blue case next to me.
I watched as the plane began to fill with people, all of whom seemed to avoid the middle section that was filled with people dressed in the same uniform. We were a sea of camouflage taking up row after row. Yes, I'm in the military. Air Force if you want to be technical.
I was just getting lost in Fallout Boy's 'Death Valley' when I felt someone tapping my shoulder. I looked up into a pair of dark brown eyes. "Excuse me, but is that seat taken?" He asks, pointing to where my laptop case is sitting.
"Oh, no. No. Let me get out of your way." I must admit, I was a little embarrassed. I was holding up traffic in the aisle... I quickly stand and move my case. It almost goes smoothly, that is, until I bump into him. He just chuckled at the frustration that was evident on my face. He takes the seat next to me and I sit back down.
I tap my foot quickly as the begins to coast down the runway. The man looks at me curiously. "Are you nervous?" He asks. This is the first I notice the thick British accent his voice came with.
"Huh? Oh. No. I have ADHD. Planes never made me nervous," I scoffed.
He nodded slightly. "It's alright to be nervous."
"But I'm not nervous."
"Sure," he says with sarcasm in his voice.
"I'm not! I get paid to fly! Planes don't make me nervous! I seriously have ADHD!"
"You're a pilot?"
I nodded slowly as if my profession wasn't obvious due to my fashion choice. I made a gesture to the patch on my left pocket where the Air Force logo was stitched.
"Oh, a military girl. Impressive."
I took my earbuds out. It was obvious that this boy would not allow me the peace I so desperately yearned for after eleven long months of fighting the Islamic extremist group, ISIS.
"I'm Thomas, by the way," he says looking down at his copy of Lord of the Flies by William Golding.
"Emmalyn," I say and glance over his shoulder at the page.
He gives me a strange look and hides the book from my view. "May I help you?"
I prayed to God that my face wasn't as red as I thought. "Sorry, I just really love that book and I was trying to figure out where you were." I bite my lip and awkwardly looked down at my laptop.
» "Simon just died," he says with brown eyes still scanning the words on the page.«
"That's a good chapter. Chapter twelve is my favorite though."
"Why?"
"You'll see," I said as a tiny smirk takes over my lips.

We talked the entire flight. He really wasn't that bad. He helped me get my duffel even though I had no trouble reading the black bag. He followed me off the plane and down to baggage claim where I watched him chase his navy blue suitcase around the oval. I couldn't help but chuckle as I grabbed my camouflage bag off the conveyor belt.
"Be honest, how stupid did I look?" He asks me as he rolls his suitcase up behind him.
"Pretty stupid. It would've came back around, you know," I say with a smirk.
His brown eyes stare at me in disbelief. "So, you're telling me that it was completely unnecessary to chase after this bloody thing!?"
I nodded and shouldered my bag. We wove our way through the crowd of people. We stepped onto the escalator to take us out to catch a cab.
I was temporarily blinded by a flash the minute we stepped off. "Sorry. Should've warned you about that. The paparazzi adore me," he says softly. My eyebrows furrow. "Thomas Brodie-Sangster. I'm in Louisiana to shoot The Maze Runner," he says, answering my unasked question.
I stare at him for a moment. "Wait, you have got to be kidding me. You're telling me that you were the little kid from Love Actually?"
He looked down at his shoes as if they held all the answers to life. He simply shrugged. "Guilty as charged."
"I honestly can't believe this. I love that movie! I can't believe that the kid I used to adore was sitting next to me for three hours."
"You adored me?" A smirk plays at his lips as he says this to me.
Now, it's my turn to stare at my shoes. "Well, yeah. I mean, who didn't, you know? Sam was a lovable character." I couldn't help but give myself a mental self-five. That was a good save.
"Oh. Where's your family? Don't they normally greet you when you get home?" He asks, looking around at some of the others hug parents, intimate others, and/or little kids.
"My parents died when I was 19. My brother lives in Minnesota with his wife. My twin sister is out in California doing who knows what. I'm basically on my own," I say nonchalantly.
"I'm sorry about your parents."
"Don't. I hate when people say that. It never sounds sincere and it just sounds like you're taking pity on me. Let's just drop it, okay?" I sigh and check the time on my phone.
I begin to walk away but I pause when I hear Thomas's British accent flood my ears. "Wait, Emmalyn!" I turn and see him jogging up to me. He hands me his phone. "Could I maybe have your number?" A pink blush rises to his cheeks.
I nod and add my number to his contacts as he does the same. "Call me sometime, okay? It was really nice to meet you, Thomas." I give him a warm smile and turn on my heel. I wave at him over my shoulder as I pull my hat over my red hair and walk out the doors to catch a cab.
A/N: YAY! This is my first time posting anything so no hate please! I don't mind some constructive criticism. I hope you guys like it. My hand cramped while typing this... -med_01
