"LOVE! I have someone I want you to meet!" A British voice wakes me from my sleeping stupor. I hear the door slam shut and two pairs of feet stepping across the hardwood floor of the living room.
I groan loudly and sit up, running a hand through my mess of hair. "Hang on!" I called back, obviously annoyed.
I swing my legs over the bed and trudge into the living room. The first thing that I see is the perfectly sculpted dark brown hair of the Asian actor I had met months before.
"You woke me up for him?! I already met him before!" I shout, flopping in the chair across from him.
"You have?! Why the bloody hell didn't you tell me!" Thomas shouts at Ki Hong Lee.
"I thought you meant another Emmalyn...."
"How many girls named Emmalyn do you think I know!?"
"I don't know! I try to stay out of your personal life," Ki Hong says, raising his hands in surrender. "But I like this one," he adds, casting a wink in my direction.
I instantly see Thomas's eyes darken. He shoulders tense but, he quickly regains his original composure. I never pinned him to be the jealous type. Guess I was wrong...
He leans forward, resting his elbows on his knees. "Well, Emmalyn, as you already seem to know, this is Ki Hong Lee."
"I already have said that I know him! Why are you introducing me to him?!" I snap.
He flinches at my raised voice. "What's got you in such a bad mood?"
"I was up until midnight last night doing a stupid project for my paleontology class! I am tired!"
"Why are you even taking a class on that? I thought you were an English major?" Ki Hong says, confusion etching his voice.
"I had to have a science and dinosaurs are cool. Don't judge!"
"Dinosaurs? Really, love? Isn't that a bit childish?" Thomas inquires.
I put a hand over my chest. "That hurts. That really does. Dinosaurs have been my life ever since I was little."
He rolls his eyes. "We should do something today."
A maniacle smile comes over my face as an idea comes to my mind.
----------------------------------------------------
It's a 30 minute drive from my hometown of Crowley to Lafayette. We were all piled in my car, radio blaring.
"Where are we even going?" Ki Hong asks from the back seat.
I pull into the parking lot of a big building. "Welcome to the Lafayette Science Museum!" I say, spanning my arm around the surrounding.
"Woah, woah, woah! It is a Saturday afternoon and you take us to a museum?!" Ki Hong shouts.
"Oh c'mon! They have a limited time exhibit on dinosaurs that I really want to see!"
"Nerdy. I like it," Ki Hong says flirtatiously.
I roll my eyes but, Thomas tightens his grip on my hand. I furrow my eyebrows at him silently asking what was wrong. His lips just form a tight line as he shakes his head.
We buy our tickets and enter the museum. I make a B-line for the dinosaur exhibit. Thomas and Ki Hong had to jog to catch up with me.
I stood in front of a replica of a velociraptor. I had started talking before they were even at my side. "Velociraptors lived about 73 million years ago and were only about two feet tall at the max. Their name means 'swift seizer'. Despite their height advantage they were one the most well known carnivorous dinosaurs. It's claimed that they used those wicked claws on their rear feet to kill their prey."
"She's just reading the plate," Ki Hong says from behind me.
I laughed. "I told you that dinosaurs were my life. I am full of interesting facts."
"Like this one for instance: Ankylosaurus. My personal favorite. It lived about 66 million years ago, just before the mass extinction. Their name means 'fused lizard'. They were herbivores. The Ankylosaurus were rather large dinosaurs, weighing in at three tons and measuring thirty feet long. They have a tail club," I say, pointing to the picture on the plaque, "that could exert extreme amounts of force onto attackers."
I keep walking, spouting random facts about the fossils in display. I eventually have a large crowd starting to follow me, listening to my descriptions of the prehistoric reptiles. Someone even came up to me and handed me a ten dollar bill for giving a much better tour than the tour guides had.
----------------------------------------------------
We left the museum around six in the afternoon. The boys had looked absolutely bored but I enjoyed it. They just don't appreciate dinosaurs...
When we got home, I had left the room for five minutes. I never realized just how much can happen in five minutes. When I return, Thomas has Ki Hong by the collar of his shirt, getting in his face.
"What the bloody hell is wrong with you?!" He shouts.
"What are you talking about, dude?" Ki Hong asks meekly.
"I'm talking about you constantly flirting with my girlfriend! I am sick and tired of it!"
"God, man. I don't mean anything by it! I'm just messing around!"
"Oh, really? Because you seemed pretty damn serious to me!"
"Thomas, calm down! Look, I'm sorry for flirting! Ok? Don't freak out."
"Out. I made the mistake of bringing you. I should've brought Dylan."
"What?" Ki Hong says, a shocked expression taking over his features.
"You heard me! Out! Don't talk to her again!" He shouts, pointing to the front door, his face red with rage.
Ki Hong begins to walk towards the big oak door. "No. Ki Hong, stop. He can't tell you to leave. This is my house, after all!"
"Get out!" Thomas yells at Ki Hong again. This time, Ki Hong ignores my protests and walks out the door.
