The Kingdom of the Elephants

The clouds hung low in the sky on that bereaved day in the Kingdom of the Elephants. Queen Irma had received word that her beloved husband died while walking through the Kingdom. With her best friend gone Queen Irma was devastated, and the fact that she had three young daughters to raise all on her own did not make it any easier.

People from every Kingdom far and wide gathered for the Kings home going celebration. It was hard to believe that such a wonderful man had passed. As all the Kings from every Kingdom came to express their condolence to the Kingdom of the Elephants, Queen Irma would thank and ensure them that she could handle the Kingdom on her own. Once the King from the Kingdom to the North step up to speak with the Queen the conversation became more intense, "I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your husband, my best friend. He was such a wonderful man, a great rule, and wonderful father. His favorite conversations were about The Sugars. How are the taken the news of his passing?"

The Queen voice was low but articulate, "My husband the King was all of those things and more. Thank you for your kind words. The Sugars are okay at the moment, but I don't think that it has really set in that their father is never coming back. I will do my job as their mother to make the transition as easy as possible, and rule this Kingdom as I did with my husband. Try not to worry about the agreement that was made between you and my husband, because I will honor his wishes."

The King gave Queen Irma a small smile, "Shall we continue to meet semi-annually to discuss the business between our two Kingdoms?"

"Yes, that will be fine. As Makayla gets older she will join our meeting so that she will learn all she will need when it is time for her to take over."

The King bends and kisses Queen Irma's hand and heads off.

At the time of the King's death the daughters Makayla (Kayla) 9, Tyanna (Tata) 7, and Amari 4 were still very young. The King gave them the nickname, "The Sugars",  because he thought they were the sweetest little girls in the world. Whenever he came home from a long trip he would ask, "Where are The Sugars." and everyone knew he was talking about his precious little girls. So whenever anyone in the Kingdom asked about all three princesses that would just call them The Sugars.

The Sugars had wonderful, full, exciting lives even though their mother had become a very powerful and strict woman. Queen Irma was a strong, poised, confident, and carried herself with dignity. Once a week she took a tour of the Kingdom (as her husband did) to make sure the Kingdom was in order. She believed that a happy Kingdom was a Kingdom that would serve graciously. The entire Kingdom loved Queen Irma and would do anything to please her. Queen Irma made sure every father had a job, every mother knew how to plant a garden, and every child had an education.

The Queen made a section of the palace into a school and made sure that The Sugars attended school with the rest of the children in The Kingdom. She believed that there was no reason for any child in her Kingdom to be without an education. Her motto was "An Intelligent Kingdom was a Progressive Kingdom."

Growing up, The Sugars had no sense of entitlement; they had to do chores, homework, and even learned to cook. Although, Tata did not understand why she had to learn to cook and do chores. You see, Tata was a free spirit; she wanted to be out in the world traveling, learning new cultures, and seeing new things. Some of the best times of her life were when the family visited other Kingdoms. She especially cherished the times when they tried new things, and saw new people. But, there was one place that she was never allowed to visit. This place was the Kingdom to the North where her future husband lived.
