Pencil scratches as I scribble out notes on soot-smudged paper, the sound managing to drown out the usual patter of rain on the roof above my head. I've been at this for hours, though the time has seemed to fly by for me. Finally finishing, I drop the pencil with a sigh and stretch my arms over me, cracking my stiff knuckles. Dew stirs from her spot on my folded futon and sleepily looks at me.
"That's this month's numbers all figured out!" I say, grinning. "If everything goes smooth tomorrow, then we'll be golden. You've been workin' on your Thunder Wave, right?" With a tired nod, she lays her head back down.
I've almost lost track of how long I've been here on Verelum. Maybe a year or so? Things have worked out better than I thought, and the numerous jars of Black Powder stashed around my room are a testament to that. I had to scramble to make that first deadline with all the testing I had to do, but it's been mostly smooth sailing since then. Yeah, there've been some rough patches, but everyone has those.
It didn't take long for word to spread that the Aaeenas were in possession of this new explosive called Black Powder, and thanks to a bit of additional "distribution" on my part (you can never have too many incos), things have gotten a bit more interesting around Verelum.
With a slight sigh I stand up from my desk, and after a minute of prodding I get Dew up as well. I have no clue what time it is, though I can recall Ina relaying a message from Guella that dinner was ready.
I smile a bit when the mauve-haired girl comes to mind. The fact that she carries that Kari-like vibe must've been a sign that we'd get along, because now she's become one of the few people I'm completely comfortable around. I guess I'm just drawn to positive people. But I've been able to tell her about my amnesia as well as everything I went through on Tranquelum. Well, almost everything...
I then hear a knock at the door, followed by a familiar voice. "Loto, you in there?"
Speak of Giratina.
"It's open," I say as I enter the main room, and a second later the door slides open. Ina enters the room, carefully balancing a tray on one hand as Lili carefully maneuvers around Ina's feet as to not trip her up. She greets me with her usual smile.
"So you're not dead after all," she says, feigning astonishment. "I haven't seen you downstairs since noon, and I know you're hungry." The bowl is filled to the brim with the miso soup I adore so much, and the smell is heavenly.
"You know me too well," I say with a smile. There's not even a word to describe how hungry I am right now.
"There's something for you too, Dew," Ina says, pointing to the tiny bowl of berries on the tray.
All of Dew's remaining grogginess vanishes in an instant. "Ne!" she happily squeaks. She instantly starts stuffing her face, only to reluctantly hand over a berry when Lili tries to take one. I can share her sentiments as I eagerly dig into my own food, manners be damned.
