"Are you late!?"
"Yeah!" I said through my window "I was supposed to leave ten minutes ago!"
I ran to the kitchen grabbing an apple and running out the house. Ran past the two huge trees and swung the backpack over my shoulder and bit into the apple. As I ran past our neighbor's houses I heard a faint "bye sissy." From my brothers.
My thin shoes stepped on hard rocks and dirt as I tried to catch my breath. Running was harder in the heat and an apple in your mouth. After taking two more bites I through my apple in a nearby dead brush and continued to run. Up ahead I saw the cars moving slower...the bus. Quickly I ran faster, step after another I made it to the last house and just a couple steps away from the bus stop.
I heard barking from several dogs and I wiped my head towards them. One big black dog and two lighter smaller dogs.
"Good doggy, " I said putting my hand up "go home."
I started to walk and saw two of them left through one, the smallest dog, stayed there as if it was waiting for me to walk back to it. I turned my head to the bus stop, then back to the dog. I walked to the stop and waited for the bus. Anxiety filled me as I couldn't see the boy across the road waiting for the bus. Either he wasn't going on the bus today or he was already picked up. I bit my lip feeling my breathing get faster. I looked up and noticed the bright yellow night school bus and I breathed out. The bus stopped in front of me, and I took a step inside.
'I really thought I missed it.'
