"She sold her daughter for a wedding?" Seokjin blurts, warily looking over at the barbie doll section of the playroom. Hannah is oblivious to their conversation- and thank goodness for that because the little rebel is just a little bit too mature for a three year old- as she kicks the dolls to the wall in front of her. Seokjin squints at that, tilting his head in confusion.
Is that how you're supposed to play with it?
"Don't say that." Taehyung warns and glares at Seokjin. "She is my daughter too, and I definitely deserve full custody. If paying for a wedding ensures that I get it, I'll pay for the damn wedding." Taehyung spits.
"I know all of that." Seokjin turns to him. "But I also know Nuri, I know how she is. She refused to give you barely any custody for three years, but always accepted money. Now, she offers custody in exchange for money, and you find nothing suspicious about it?"
Taehyung blinks, eyebrows sinking down in a scowl, mouth slightly ajar. He groans suddenly, unaware of Seokjin's body flinching in fear of the unexpected sound. "It's not going to stop only at this, is it?"
"No, idiot." Seokjin flicks Taehyung's forehead in affirmation. "She'll milk you dry and constantly threaten you about the custody if you don't give her money, just like she's been doing until now. She broke up with you so she can ask for more money than she got whilst in a relationship with you and she used Hannah as an excuse for that."
Taehyung looks over to his daughter calmly kicking her toys, then looks back to Seokjin "...So what do I do? Nuri said she'd have her lawyer contact mine. What can I do in court for the judge to know all of that?"
"Oh, I don't know, tell him?" Seokjin remarks sarcastically. "You said she's getting married, right?" Taehyung nods. "Well there you go. She's getting married, giving you full custody, it's a win-win situation for you. When she's married, that means she has a new source of money in her life, which means she doesn't need yours anymore. She's also giving you full custody which is obviously a reason to not give her money, a reason for her to give you money since you're taking full care of her child. Just make sure all the papers are signed before you pay for the wedding, then she'll have nothing on you."
He wouldn't say it out loud, but it took Taehyung a minute to process his friend's words. He's right... He could've been a lawyer himself, Taehyung doesn't know why Seokjin's been putting up with him for years when he could've had a successful career, but he doesn't complain. "You're right. That's... true." Taehyung admits hesitantly.
Seokjin scoffs. "Of course I'm right. I'm always right. Just think of Hannah and what's best for her, okay?"
"Of course. She's all I have anyways, I'm not going to let anything bad happen to her." Taehyung says and Hannah suddenly calls out to him. He turns his head in her direction and stills.
Hannah is smiling widely, holding the doll head in one hand and the body in the other.
"I broke it." She pouts and attempts to reattach the doll parts to each other.
"Come here baby, I'll fix it for you." Taehyung beckons her over and she obliges. Hannah hands him the doll and goes to sit in Seokjin's lap. She jumps at a sudden ding that pierces through the silence in the room.
"Sorry." Seokjin apologizes meekly. "It's my phone." He fetches it out of his pocket, and smiles at it. Taehyung notices this and can't help himself,
"What is it?"
"Just a message from my friend." Seokjin replies but doesn't bother looking up.
Something in Taehyung coils. He hands the now fixed doll to his daughter and she accepts it, automatically pulling at it's hair. Taehyung quickly mutters out an excuse and leaves the room, leaving a very confused Seokjin behind.
