"WAKE UP!"
I groaned and flapped my arms wildly around, searching for my target. My hand found its mark, earning a yelp from my little brother.
I opened my eyes slowly but closed them right away after the light (that was brighter than my future) shone in my face.
"Come on," Jisung whined, shaking my shoulder. "Mom is gonna get mad.
I sighed and mumbled, "Just a few more minutes."
The blankets I was covering my face with were suddenly torn off.
This time I flung my leg off my bed and kicked Jisung's thigh.
"Ow!" He yelled and flicked my forehead.
This woke me up. I sat straight up and looked that annoying little devil right in the eyes.
"You will regret that," I whispered.
He smiled smugly and scoffed.
"Make me," he said, flicking back his hair with one long finger sassily.
I laughed humorlessly. "Oh I will," I growled, flipping on the hood of my onesie.
Jisung's eyes widened, and he said, "I don't think giraffe hoods are supposed to be intimidating but they are!" He shrieked and ran out of my room. I jumped out of bed and chased him down the stairs and into the kitchen. I found out it's not very easy to sprint on hardwood floors in a giraffe onesie.
After yelling threats at my little brother, Jisung suddenly came to a halt and stopped screaming, which meant I had the perfect opportunity.
I got you now, you little punk, I thought, getting ready to reach out and tickle him.
Joke's on me though, because as soon as I thought that, I slipped.
"oH MY jEsUS!" I screamed (in Mark's voice). I rubbed my butt and muttered curses at my onesie.
(A/N: You're welcome...)
Mom gasped and ran to me while Jisung laughed, slapping his knee. Is my pain really that enjoyable?
"Are you okay, Melody?" Mom asked.
"Psh, yeah I'm fine," I said, waving my hand around. "You should ask my butt, though. I don't think it's okay."
As soon as I said this, Mom gently slapped my arm and whispered, "We have guests."
Guests mean free food.
I peeked around the corner and gasped when I saw a couple standing right in front of me.
Mom gestured to them and said, "This is the Kim family."
I smiled awkwardly as I looked up at them.
"Um...hi," I said, standing up. "I'm Melody."
Mom nudged Jisung and he spoke up, "Hi! My name is Jisung. I'm Melody's brother."
The mom's face brightened up and she said, "Oh! I'm sure you'll get along well with our son then."
She stepped to the side and I gasped. How did I not notice this beauty?
Standing there was a young man. And let me tell ya this: he was gorgeous. He had beautiful sharp eyes under oh so sleek eyebrows, a perfectly straight nose and his LIPS. I never knew there was a man who possessed such lucious lips. They were shaped into a frown the corners were angled slightly upwards. I bet he'd have an amazing smile. But that's just his face. His body was just as amazing. His thin t-shirt showed off his broad shoulders, the gentle swell of his chest, and his well-built, tall and lean figure. Do guys this age really work out though? Because most of the guys I know definitely do not, which is fine because I understand the laziness but still-
"Melody."
"Melody!" Mom's voice interrupted my thoughts.
"What?" I asked. Then I realized I was checking out the son's body. I met his eyes and immediately wished I hadn't. I felt like his eyes were going to burn through mine if I held his gaze for any longer. The look on his face was sort of smug but at the same time annoyed.
"I was just saying, you and Doyoung are the same age. Hopefully you two can become friends," Mom explained.
Sorry honey. Nuh uh. Not happening. This guy is scary, I can already tell he hates me, and I don't wanna be judged every time he sees me.
"Yeah right," Jisung muttered between coughs.
I elbowed him in the ribs. Then I turned my attention back to Doyoung.
Doyoung. Even his name somehow sounds intimidating.
I nodded reluctantly then froze in realization. I looked down and saw my giraffe onesies. Oh no. Wait a sec. Does that mean Doyoung saw me fall on my butt in a giraffe onesie?! And my face! Oh no, my face! And my hair looks like a horse came by and licked it and then slapped some hay on top.
I sighed. I give up. Doyoung would've hated me even if he didn't see that. You know what? I tried, and that's all that matters. Well, actually I didn't try but let's just pretend I did. The past is in the past.
"Cool," I said, nodding and trying to keep my cool.
"I look forward to getting to know you," Doyoung said. His voice was light and gentle. He smiled at me but it seemed pretty hostile. What did I ever do to him?
I almost managed to say, "Yeah, me too," but my voice cracked at the end. I saw Doyoung struggling to hide a giggle and thought, This is sad. Now he's even making fun of my voice crack. Everyone goes through puberty, ya know!
Jisung spoke up then, "But Mom? Why are they here?"
I stepped on his foot and murmured, "Rude," but I was curious as well.
Mr. Kim smiled and said, "We're moving in to the house behind yours."
Mom looked at Jisung and I and said, "They're our new neighbors!"
