Chapter One

~ ࿇ ♕ ࿇ ~

"Catherine!" The voice stirred her, at first she fought back the urge to tell her mum she'd get up later. That's when she realized she was living alone now and had gone to class at university.

Her head shot up, blinking her almond eyes rapidly when met with the blisteringly bright light of the auditorium. A man stood at the bottom, staring at her. That's when she realized this wasn't her class, and the two people next to her weren't her fellow peers. "I don't recall this being your class". The man said.

There were some laughs in the hall, she swallowed a little hard. "I uh, didn't get enough sleep." She muttered, there was no way the professor even heard her utter that under her breath. She wasted no time in scrambling up, messily throwing together her books and papers. Lastly, she grabbed her bag and hurried from the auditorium, heaving a heavy sigh.

She didn't get enough sleep. She had stayed up late watching a stupid television drama that enveloped her into it until the clock struck 3 am. Though she wouldn't have been surprised if she fell asleep in class even if she had enough sleep. University wasn't for her.

This would've been her third course she was trying out, but nothing grasped to her. She wanted to be happy in a course she chose, though it felt unnatural to be in a classroom setting like that. Yet the last thing that she wanted was to disappoint her family.

She walked out onto campus, taking out her phone and sliding her earbuds in. She started playing some music, letting herself relax as she leaned her head back. The ever so annoying sound of a ringtone was the next thing she heard, she grimaced and put her music on pause. The song "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" by P!ATD was displayed on the screen, she loved Brendon Urie.

"Oh hey, mum." Catherine greeted, rubbing her forehead when her mother began to abruptly bombard her with questions.

"Thank god you picked up! Where have you been Cath? I called you twice already! You said you'd call me right after you finished class." Her mother sternly scolded.

Catherine frowns, "I had to stay late at university, I'm alright mum." She said to reassure her.

There was a sigh on the other end of the line. "It's good to hear that. But hurry home hun." The call was ended. Catherine loved her mum to death, though she always worried about her daughter. Wanting to know every minuscule detail of where she had been, what she was doing, and who with. Least to say Catherine had a protective mother.

There were times when she may have been annoyed by it when she was slightly younger. Though she only wanted to make sure Catherine was safe, and it wasn't a mystery why. She played the music; letting it take her troubles away as she got herself into her car, and drove to her apartment.

As to why her mother wanted Catherine home so soon didn't make sense to her. As far as she was concerned nothing note-worthy was even happening today. She glanced at the radio, hearing a message that caught her attention.

"21-year-old Amber Grattan was abducted from her home last Saturday around 8 pm. Anyone with information please call this number and remember to lock your home down at night." She turned it down as the number played out, grimacing as she drove. A few young women had gone missing lately, they just disappeared without a trace.

Catherine even remembered that girls name, she went to high school with her. It's not like they were close though, just another girl she occasionally saw around the halls. That was also why her mother worried for her so much, this whole kidnapping deal had her mother on edge.
