chapter nine _ the request

Betty's POV
The next day I woke up earlier so I could visit Jughead before school. I went to the hospital and saw Archie there, probably he had stayed there all night because he was really tired. He said about their problems with Jughead including his argument with Cyrus. After that I went to Jughead's room. He was asleep and so was FP . They both opened their eyes when I got in the room. FP woke up and said Hi but Jughead, he fell asleep again after a few seconds. FP got ready for work and left the hospital. Then it was only Jughead and me. I stayed there for an hour but he didn't wake up, so I decided to go to school and come back in the evening. While I was leaving, he finally opened his eyes; he wanted to say something but he was so weak because of morphine. He said in a weak tone "Betty, can I ask you something?" I nodded. He continued "Do you have any special plan for Christmas?"
" I don't know Jug,I usually go to my grandparent's house. Why are you asking?"
"I want you to do me a favor. Will you?"
"Anything Jug "
"Last night I had a conversation with my doctor and he said that he's not sure  how much time I have left, maybe one year or more, maybe less than a year. We're not sure about anything but there's one thing I'm sure about and I know no one will ever tell me. Actually what happened last night wasn't just an accident, I could expect it all. My lung function is decreasing so do my other organs, but symptoms haven't showed up yet. So right now I'm a boy who may die in every second and I only have a wish .I've never been out of this town and I really want to see another part of this world. So,if I made it until Christmas, will you take me somewhere out of Riverdale? Just you, me and Cyrus?"
I could see everything in his eyes and I was 100% sure that he would cry as soon as I leave. By the way his request was something I couldn't reject but it was also risky. I didn't even know if my parents would accept it or not; I knew they liked Jughead and they really cared about him but I wasn't sure they would let their daughter spend Christmas with his disabled boyfriend instead of her family.
"To me it's okay Jug but I can't ensure you before I ask my parents " I said . He didn't say anything this time; just closed his eyes. I left there and joined Archie. On our way to school I told Archie about Jughead's request. He said "Betty I think you shouldn't accept it even if your parents give you the permission; it's a big risk "
"Why? He said it's his last and only request "
"Let's be logical Betty. He clearly said he may die every second. So,what if he dies there? Do you know how does it feel to spend the last moments of your life without your family? And by the way, if anything happens you are responsible "
I sighed and he continued "ok Betty there is always a way. I know it's his decision and I respect it but let's ask FP first "
" ok I'll call him tonight "

Jughead's POV
I was sitting alone on my bed till Cyrus came to give me my meds. He was feeding my stomach while I said "I'm sorry Cy,I shouldn't have talked to you like that " he laughed.
"I think it's just the morphine not you. what you said last night and you are saying now, they just don't match."
" Cyrus can you please stop it for a second? I'm sober and I'm saying that I'm sorry. Just look around and say who is left for me except you? You're the one who never leaves me.I don't care it's a part of your job  because you are the only one who always stays by my side, talk to me when I'm sad and understand me, as I said you're like a brother to me and I can never push you away " he sat on a chair next to me "I really care about you Jug and it really breaks my heart to see you in pain but what you want, is not something that I can do. I can't let you die. I know how much you want it but that's not what I am going to do. So, don't count on me please "
"Ok but please don't leave me bro" he took my hand and said "I'll stay with you till the last moment brother "

FP's POV
That night I came home to get changed and visit Jug then. I was getting ready when I got a call from Betty. I answered "Hi Betty is everything okay?"
"Yeah don't worry mr. Jones. I just wanted to talk if it's ok"
"So what's it about  Betty?"
"Actually, today I was talking to Jug and he asked me something "
" what did he ask for?"
"He_ he said he's dying and he asked me to take him somewhere out of Riverdale. Believe me mr. Jones I know it's super risky and that's why I called you. "

She was right. We had an appointment that day and his doctor told me that his body is slowing down. I don't know how did he find out but that was a fact.
"You know Betty, let him do whatever he wants even if he wants to leave the town "
"Are you sure that this is the best idea mr. Jones? What if something bad happens? What should we do then?"
" don't worry Betty. You already have Cyrus "
"But..."
"Don't say but Betty, please just accept it. I know I shouldn't tell you but he's right. He's really sick and all I want for him is a content life. Just for the God's sake Betty, accept his request. " I could hear her voice and it was like she was crying. She kept crying until she understood it's better to hang up the phone .
I remembered what I promised JB about calling Gladys. I had to do that; I dialled her number and someone answered " Hey it's Gladys Jones "
"Hi Gladys it's me FP"
"oh of course you are.Long time no see"
" listen Gladys,I don't have much time and I should tell you something. It's about Jughead "
"Tell me he's fine unless I will come and kill you FP "
"Well, I just called you to say he's not. I'm serious Gladys, he's really sick "
"What _ what did you do to my son?"
"Calm down! It's not my fault he did such a stupid thing. He did something and now he's paying for it "
"You are dead FP, you're just a dead man walking. I'm coming tomorrow got it?"
"No No No, Gladys don't..." it was too late. She already hung up the phone. After that phone call I had nothing to do except visiting Jug; at least I knew would always listen to me"
