One day at school, Hunt and I were walking to our class together and I pull him to the side of the hall .

"Hey, can I talk to you?" I ask.

"Sure,  what's up?" Hunt says adorably.

" I ..um I ..uh um"

Come on Lucas,  just speak like a normal human being!

But it was like I looked into his green eyes and I felt weak in the knees and my world slowed down.

It felt like we were the only people on earth, instead of being the only ones in the empty hallway.

Everyone else was probably already in class, because the bell had rang minutes ago but it was the least of my worries.

Just ask him, Lucas . you got this! I encouraged myself.

But even in my head it doesn't sound encouraging

I block out the voices in my head and turn my focus back to Hunt.

He's not really saying anything just looking me straight in the eyes waiting patiently for my answer .

"Do you think we could exchange numbers?" I blurt out and then regret it from the expression on Hunt's face .

But words are like a tube of toothpaste once the toothpaste is out you can't put it back in the tube, no matter how hard you try .

Words can always be forgiven and forgotten but never taken back.

Please say yes, please say yes, please say yes. I really, really need this win.

"Sure" he says and he hands me his phone and I hand him mine .

I put my number in his phone and he does the same.

We  give the phones back to their original owners.

We head in the direction of our class.

We are so dead. Our  teacher hates tardy kids, one is bad enough, but two?

It was just dangerous.
