I woke up with a jolt the next morning, an unexplainable urge to go downstairs forcing me to get up and take the stairs two at a time. What I found brought memories of last night down on me like a title wave. Ashton and Michael stood at the foot of the sofa where Luke rested. Selena kneeled in front of him, a dull glow coming from her hands which hovered over Luke’s injuries. Ashton managed to wrap his chest as best he could last night. We could only do so much for the pain.

Michael was the first to notice me. He tapped Ashton on the shoulder and they both turned silently and pulled me out of the room and into the kitchen.

“We didn’t know what else to do, seeing him in so much pain was unbearable” Ashton explained.

“I’m not mad” I stated, “you did the right thing” I nodded.

They shifted from foot to foot under my gaze.

“When did you call her?” I asked, looking directly at Ashton.

“Uh, actually…Michael called her…she was here before I woke up” he explained with a shrug.

“Really?” I asked surprised.

Mike nodded slowly. “As much as it bothers me that she’s using…magic on him, I couldn’t watch him suffer anymore.”

“Honestly, I think she’s growing on him” Ashton smirked.

“Shut up” Mike snapped, shoving Ashton.

I put on a weak smile and a chuckle.

“How about you guys get him some food? He’s gonna need it” I suggested.

“Yeah, alright” Michael agreed obliviously.

He grabbed the keys off the counter and headed out.

“Good luck, mate” Ashton encouraged, squeezing my shoulder.

He always could read me the best.

When I heard the truck speed off down the street, I returned to the living room. Luke was asleep on the couch, sweat coating his face as he rested. Selena glanced up at me, pulling her hands away from his wounds and clearing her throat.

“I healed what I could” she said quietly, avoiding my gaze. “I thought it was best if I put him to sleep for a couple hours. Ashton told me he was up most of the night because of his wounds.”

“Is he still in pain?” I questioned.

She shook her head. “I numbed the area, but it will only last for a few hours. I brought something for the pain as well.”

She motioned to the table where four small vials laid side-by-side. “He’ll need to drink one every six hours or so.”

“Alright” I agreed.

Standing slowly, I watched as she began to gather her things. There was so much I wanted to tell her, so much I wanted to do. I still remember the look in her eyes when I tried to touch her. The last thing I ever wanted Selena to feel was fear when she saw me. It felt like my heart literally shattered when she stepped back.

When I blinked back to reality, I found her staring at me with soft eyes. She was so small in comparison to me, so fragile. I wanted to take her in my arms and tell her she was the most important thing in my life.

“Can I ask you something?” she inquired.

I was surprised by her voice breaking the silence. I nodded.

“Michael told me something yesterday…about you…and me” she began.

“Go on” I encouraged.
