I was in my bedroom playing piano. It was something I did daily. Still trying to find the correct chords for my song. Nothing sounded right together it seemed. I heard my door creak open. I turned to see Elijah.
"Hey." I said in surprise. It wasn't often he came to my room. This probably meant he wanted something and it wouldn't be good.
"Hey." He walked over and sat on my favourite arm chair in front of my piano.
"Everything okay?" I questioned.
"Yeah. I just, I want to talk to you about Jaxon. I saw the flowers he gave you."
"What about Jaxon?"
"Don't let yourself get close to him. He's a complete waste of space."
"Look. I know that something happened between you guys. But I can't let that in the way of my relationship with him. Whatever happened, was between you two."
"Your relationship?"
"You know what I mean."
"He was my best friend for four years. Trust me. I know him better then you do. He isn't right for you."
"Well Elijah. Tell me what happened between you guys, and maybe that'll change my mind."
"I don't want to talk about it. I'm your brother. All you can do is trust me."
"Elijah, I feel like I barely know you. You spend all your time either hidden away in the gardens smoking, or in your bedroom playing guitar. Or with Cole doing who knows what."
"Look. I think you should pick Cole. But you know what, I'd be happy with Kaden. As long as it isn't Jaxon. But I mean, still. Cole's great."
"Do you want me with Cole for your needs, or mine?"
"Both. You know I love you. Maybe- maybe I don't always show it. It isn't easy for me to show it. I'm just not that lovey dovey type of guy."
"Okay. Whatever Elijah. Just please, leave me alone. I'm kind of busy."
"With playing piano?"
"Yeah."
"Piano's more important than me?"
"I never said that. But look, you made your point. Cool. I listened and-"
"And you aren't following through."
"What do you mean?"
"If I were you, I would un-invite Jaxon right now. I wouldn't even give him a chance."
"Well that's you. We are two very different people."
"Yeah yeah. Don't say I didn't warn you." Elijah stood up and slammed my door on his way out. I truly wish he would just tell me what happened between the two of them. I feel like I deserve to know. I'm Elijah's sister, and Jaxon might just be my future husband. I need to know.
Sometimes I wish I had somebody to talk to. Somebody that I trusted in. That could give me advice, or even just to listen. I mean, I had mom. But I couldn't tell her everything. I've never had any close friends before. I mean, I've had friends that I've thought were close. But really, just were fake and wanted me for fame. There was a situation in the past with a girl named Athena. She and I were what I thought to be, best friends. But I told her something really private. It was about how I got bad nightmares, and how I would be put on medications for them. She went and told people around her school. Word got everywhere, and eventually I had to discuss my personal mental health issue to the public on live television. Mom and dad quickly forbid me to see Athena. It was heartbreaking at the time. Since than, I never really tried making any more friends. Oaklynn is different. She has two best friends. Mom and dad in all honesty dislike them. They think that's where Oaklynn picks up all the sass from. Oaklynn also spends her time communicating with boys. Random boys. Then there's Elijah. He's only had two friends in his lifetime. First it was Jaxon. Then something terrible happened between them. Then now there is Cole. I feel like, as royals, this is the price we pay. We can trust very little amounts of people. Family is our main communication. But that doesn't always mean family has a healthy communication.
"Avelee, dear." My maid Addison was outside my door knocking.
"Come in."
"You've received more flowers dear."
"Is this some ritual? The candidates buy the bachelor or bachelorette flowers."
"I guess so. It's also just a warm, hello, I can't wait to meet you, here's a gift."
"Guess so. Let's see who these are from? They are very pretty." I gently grabbed the flowers out of Addison's hands and looked at the card attached.
"Yes dear. They are called Juliet Roses. Not a cheap buy." Addison chuckled.
"They are from Kaden," I read the tag aloud, "Dear Avelee, I am really excited to meet you! The day is coming up soon! Hope you love the flowers! See you soon! Kaden."
"How charming. Would you like me to place them in a vase for you?"
"Yes please. I think I should put the flowers downstairs in the dinning area along with Jaxon's."
"Lovely. Is there anything else I can get you dear?"
"No. I'm good, thank you."
"No worries!" Addison scurried out of the bedroom with the flowers held up to her nose. I wish she and the other maids got more credit for their work. Yeah, a pay cheque is always great. But flowers, a nice personalized card. Something. They truly deserved it.
Receiving the flowers from Jaxon and Kaden really made this feel more real. The date was soon that they would be arriving to the palace. I knew for sure of two things. 1. That the date would come in the blink of an eye, and 2. That I wasn't ready for it.
