You And Me

Back Home Pt. 2

Renee walks down the hospital hallway calling her parents to tell them Malcolm just passed away and they will be there soon to pick the kids up. As she heads back to the waiting room,
Michael walks up to her
"Are you okay baby?"
"Yea I called my parents..they are on their way to pick up the kids in a couple of hours"
"Alright do you need anything?"
"No I'm fine right now.. I can't believe he's gone Mike.."

Renee started crying against the wall as she held Michael
"Am I being punished for what I've done?"
"Nae! what would you say that?.. look at me..it was a car accident you did nothing wrong okay?"
"I must not be thinking right..I've hurt him so bad Mike the eleven years we were together.. that's all I have left is memories with him..and now he's gone.."

"Malcolm knows you didn't hurt him the best thing is that you and him got along even after the divorce and I was getting along with him believe it or not"
"You and Malcolm getting along?.. really?"

"Yea we talked just last week..he was a good guy.. I was going to fly him out to Cali and just hang out.. but I guess it's not going to happen now.. he did tell me something I wasn't suppose to say"
"What was that?"
"He told me to take care of you and the kids if anything happened to him.. it's like he knew something was going to happen to him"
"He said that?"
"Yea Nae..he did and I'm gonna keep that promise to him and make sure I do that for him"

"I can't say that the two men that are in my life would get along even under the circumstances.. I'm glad you two did get along.."
"I was surprised myself"
"I'm gonna miss him so much Mike .."
"I know baby I know.."

Michael hugged her and she held him tight as she started shedding tears.
"Thank you again for being so understanding of this.."
"I'm here for you Nae always"

Three Hours Later
Renee's parents walked in the waiting room; her Dad and Mom gave her both a hug at the same time.

Shanice said to her
"I'm sorry to hear about Malcolm baby" she lets go and goes to Grace and said her condolences and sat with her.
The nurse comes in and tells everyone if they wanted to see Malcolm one last time before they take him out can come.

Renee and Grace agreed to go As they approached the room, they had him covered up and the nurse pulled the blanket back to see his face.
Grace went up to him and kissed his forehead while she shed tears for her son
"I love you so much my son.. you are no longer in pain my baby"

Renee stood across from her holding his hand shedding tears with her mother in law. She rubbed his face and stared at him..the face she will never see again only in her memories.

Renee kisses him on his bruised face still holding his hand 
"I love you Malcolm until we meet again one day.."

Renee places her head on his chest.. no heartbeat beating but she imagined it was when the many times they laid in bed hearing his heartbeat while he slept just as calm as it relaxed her.

They left the room and Renee looks at Michael with tears streaming down her face.
He held her hands as she cried even more..

Getting back in the car, Renee sits in the backseat while Grace sat up front. She looks out the window just drained from crying all night.

She couldn't believe Malcolm was gone.. it was hard for her but she had support through this hard time. Grace turned around in her seat looking at Renee looking out the window with sunglasses on.
