"Goodnight Naomi!" my mother chirped, "Have a good night's sleep, tomorrow's your 5th birthday!"
"I know! Good night mummy!" I replied excitedly.
As she walked out, she closed the lights of my room.
Adreline pumped through my veins and it prevented me from sleeping. I hugged one of my many soft toys surrounding me tightly. My active mind thought of a beautiful cake and awesome presents. Just imagine all the toys and food I was going to get!
...
After a while, when I finally managed to almost drift off to sleep, something started to shake furiously from under my bed.
"H-hello?"I called out with my voice shaky.
It started to shake even more. The light of the midnight moon shine in as an eerie aura crept into my room and soon it suffocated my heart.
The bed time story my father used to read to me came to me.
As Isabelle looked around frightened, her forehead filled with nervous sweats...she was about to assume nothing was wrong WHEN SUDDENLY! The koochu monster came from under her bed and...
"RAWR!" a voice roared, it did not sound deep but more childlike but it scared the living soul out of the young me. I look at the silhouette that was casted by the hallway's light. The creature had two horns on its head and sharp claws on its hands. Its eyes were yellow, its pupils were black and sharp and they glowed in the dark.
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" I screamed at the top of my lungs with my high-pitched child voice.
"AHHHHHHHHHHH!" the voice screamed too and scurried back to under my bed.
"NAOMI!"my parents shouted as they rushed to my side. I started to bawl.
"Are you okay? Did something happen?"my father asked worriedly, holding my small hands in his big and rough ones while my mother wiped away my tears with her thumb.
"M-monster...monster...under the bed...it was koochu monster from dad's story...WAAAAAAAAAAAHH!"I croaked out before crying again. My mother glared at my father with a death stare as he looked away.
"Oh sweetie, there's no such thing as a koochu monster."my mother said comfortingly while still sending my father the 'I will beat your ass up later on' stare.
"L-let me s-sleep with you t-tonight mummy. I'm scared..."I begged in between sobs. She agreed and led me to my parent's room.
"Mummy will return after she finish her UNFINSHED business, okay?" she said. I nodded my head. She then pulled my father out the room.
"PATRICK, ONCE I FIND MY STUPID SLIPPERS YOU ARE SO DEAD."
"OH MY GOD AVA, NOT THE SLIPPERS! PLEASE SPARE ME!"
"ALSO YOU ARE SLEEPING ON THE DAMN COUCH TODAY, PATRICK THE FREAKING STARFISH."
"NOOOOOOO!!"
As I laid in my parents' fluffy bed, I had made up my mind.
I want to learn martial arts.
"COME HERE YOU DOG!"
"NO, NO, NO! AVA, SPARE YOUR DEAR HUSBAND!"
All of a sudden, I heard a war cry.
SLAP!
"ARGGH!"
...
The next day came around and I woke up to my mother next to me. Remembering that it was my birthday today, I shook my mother up vigorously.
"It's my birthday today!" I exclaimed. She woke up groggily and forced a small smile to appear on her face.
"Yes, yes it is sweetie, just let mummy have 5 more minutes of sleeeeeppppp...."she said before her voice disappeared slowly and fell back into sleep. I looked at her with a "what the fuck" face and went down.
"Good morning Naomi! How was your sleep?" my father asked bitterly as he took the cake out of the fridge.
"Awesome!"I laughed,"Too bad you couldn't sleep on the comfortable bed too."
He thinned his lips in frustration and released it,"Yup! How unfortunate indeed."
I then heard footsteps. It was from my mother who was making her way down the stairs.
"Happy birthday, birthday girl! You're 5 year old now! You grow up so fast!"she exclaimed, carrying me up into the air and spinning me around.
"Heehee!"I giggled,"Thank you!"
"Let's celebrate your birthday now, shall we?" my father said as he set the cake onto the counter. It was a strawberry cake with chocolate rice sprinkles sprinkled on top of it. It did not meet the criteria for an 'aesthetic' cake but it was so beautiful to young me.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday to Naomi! Happy birthday to you!" my parents sang in chorus as they clapped their hands to the beat. I clapped my hands together and made my wish then blew out the candles.
"What did you wish for?" my mother asked.
"I'm not suppose to say my wish but," I whispered secretively to my parents, they played along and leaned in "I wished that I can learn and master martial arts!"
My parents looked at each other with uncertainty written all over their faces.
"Are you sure?"my father questioned.
I nodded my head furiously.
"Yeah! So when the koochu monster comes back, I can kick his butt! Hiya! Hiya!"I replied as I kicked the air and punched it. Poor air.
"Ah...then I suppose I can sign you up for some lessons..."he chuckled,"But first, we open the present!"
I giggled as I raced them to the present that was placed next to the coffee table.
I ripped open the present wrappings. I gasped at the sight of it.
"IT'S THE NERF GUN THAT I ALWAYS WANTED!"I squealed, my eyes sparkled. I lifted it up and pulled the trigger. It didn't shoot anything though, I didn't put any ammo in yet. Did you think I shot it? Hah! You're dumb if you did.
My parents looked at me smiling and smiled themselves.
...
Little did we know that this, became the foundation for my career as an assassin.
