River

Oh, I wish I had a river so long;
I could skate away on.

Its coming on Christmas,and they are cutting down trees;
They are putting up reindeer, singing songs of joy and peace.
As snowflakes dance on your delicate eyelashes;
As laughter erupts from the ice-rink's many, many crashes.
Take my hand and hold me close;
For I fear a visit from a Christmas ghost.
A holiday haunting for my eyes only;
A sadness returning to the season most holy.

I wish I had a river so long; I could skate my fears away on.
Oh, I wish I had a river so wide; I could open my heart and let love inside.
With this Christmas season coming faster than ever before;
I feel guilty in admitting that my heart is sore.
This time of year is always hard for those in loss;
But, at least, everyone is smiling; that's the happiness I've got.

As tales of folklore trickle down from my mouth to your ears;
I can hear the Christmas carollers smile through their cheers.
With one quick breath I am clouded in the cold;
With the memories of the young and the old.
I love this time of year because it reminds me that I am human;
A man made of bones and emotion.
I wish I had river so long; I could skate away my sadness on.
Oh, I wish I had a river so wide; I could open my heart and let you inside.

As Jingle Bells bounces across my piano;
As holiday lyrics have a meaning only I know.
I want to wish you the merriest of Christmases you've ever had;
Hold your loved ones close this year and, please, be glad;
Be glad of the warmth you feel in your chest;
Be glad of the friends you love; those who passed your test.
And I'll be glad of the coziness slowly beaming into my heart;
As the river I so desperately wanted is melting; leaking Christmas joy into my art.

Oh, I wish I had a river so long;
I could skate away on.
