Next Year Will Be Better

Have you heard the news?
Home Alone's on TV tonight!
I'm so excited I don't know what to do!
Pour Bailey's into coffee; keep the fire alight.

Condensation forms on the windows like a blanket to keep us warm;
Summer's long gone; and our hearts are healing; no longer scorn.
Euphoria sparks in the form of a snowfall;
As bells start jingling and old family friends call.
The flowers may have withered beneath the gray;
But we're blossoming more than we ever have today.
We've made it; another year's come and gone;
Hold a light for the one's we've lost along, the way;
The last twelve months have been a terrible period for us;
I hope we can leave all of that in the dust.
And, maybe, we can replace what's been lost with love and compassion;
And we'll do it in a unified; united fashion.
The holidays are here again;
I hope you have a good one, my friend.

Our axis is tilting; borderline's shifting;
Where do we begin and where do we end?
Our world is bending; almost breaking;
We've been warned; we may never forget;
Forget about the fact that the world's bad deeds caught up to us;
I guess we, as a planet, found ourselves on the naughty list this Christmas.
But maybe, just maybe, for one whole day;
We can forget about the death, the disease, the decay.
We can sit around the kitchen table as a family;
Stuffing our faces until we retire to the living room happily.
Playing card games and board games until our voices tire;
As the chestnuts, well, the chestnuts roast on the open fire.

Tomorrow we can have the leftovers - put them in the fridge;
But, do we have some chocolate now? I wouldn't mind eating it.
Although it's not as good as the first two are, 'Home Alone 3' is on right now.
Snuggled and cuddled like things should be; next year will be better; someway, somehow.
