Next day Mary was pacing at the door, praying Eden would come back. John let Mary stay home from school, because everything was just to much. She just didn't know what happened yesterday. Everything was just held in to long and it just exploded, but she didn't want Eden to leave again. John just watched not knowing what to do. Mary stopped.
"John what if she doesn't come back, its all my fault, I never wanted her to leave, I was just scared and upset and...." she began to cry.
John went over to her and comforted her.
"Mary its not your fault, none of this is your fault, I don't want you to think this ever again" said John.
Mary nodded and went to hug him. John picked her up and hugged her. Just then the buzzer rang.
Mary jumped down and threw open the door running into Charlie who was coming in the door.
"You want me to go after her?" asked Charlie.
"No she isn't running away this time" said John.
Mary ran down the stairs at a super fast rate, bumping into Justin. Justin went to grab her but she got away from him. He ran after her. Mary got to the door. There was Eden standing there. Mary ran out to the door and embraced Eden. Eden shocked hugged her back. When Justin saw this he turned around and headed back up the stairs.
"Eden I'm sorry for getting upset and running" said Mary.
"No Mary Im sorry, your right I left and you don't know anything about me, how could you, you were only four years old" said Eden, "but please let me change this, please let me come back. I no I don't deserve a second chance, but please."
Mary looked at her with understanding eyes.
"I want you back to, I want a sister, I want to get to know you" said Mary with tears in her eyes.
"I love you" said Mary hugging Eden again.
"I love you to sweet heart" said Eden picking Mary up and carrying her into the apartment.
When John saw this he got a big smile on his face.
They then all sat and talked her a long time and had dinner. They didn't realize that it had gotten dark
Mary soon fell asleep on the couch.
Eden looked over at Mary.
"I will do what ever I need to to help you John. Whatever it takes to keep Mary away from dad" said Eden.
"Thanks, but right now I don't know whats going on. CPS is going to be here any day. The lawyer told me they were investigating dad and mom, but they can't find mom. I just don't know whats going to happen with that. They are going to take dad to court and then hopefully I will get custody" said John.
"You will, there is no one better" said Eden, "Certainly not me."
They sat in silence for awhile.
"She's so big, last time I saw her she still sucked her thumb and had that bear thing with her" said Eden.
"Ha, she doesn't suck her thumb anymore, but still has the bear" said John.
"I missed her whole life" said Eden.
"Not all of it, you still have a chance" said John, "Mary wants you here."
"I just don't want to disappoint her" said Eden.
"Not to many things can at this point" said John as he went to pick her up.
He picked her up trying not to wake her. She wrapped her arms around his neck. He rubbed her back sending her back to sleep and carried her to her room.
He laid on her on the bed, carefully slipping on her socks and taking a clip out of her hair. He then put her under the covers and tucked her in, kissing her forehead.
Before turning out the light her looked at her for a little while, just wondering how he could have left her.
