John woke up the next with a crook in his neck. Mary was no longer asleep on his lap. He got up and almost forgot about what had happened the previous day, but then gained his memory very quickly. He headed to the bathroom, but checked in Mary's room first, she was sound asleep, and so was everyone else. He looked in the mirror. He saw his cheek, it was swollen and bruised. He rubbed it but it hurt. He then washed his face before going to get dress. After getting dress he went into the kitchen and sat on the stole and drank some coffee. Danny soon woke up. He came into the kitchen.
"Morning man" said Danny
"God, I can barely even remember what happened last night, its all a blur" said John.
"I can't either" said Danny, "Dude since when do you drink coffee?"
"Since now, I need something man" said John.
"Listen today I need to go talk to a lawyer, about getting custody of Mary" said John, "I need one of you guys to stay her with her. I don't think my dad will come back, but I would feel better if one of you were here."
"Ya I can definetly do that" said Danny.
"Also thanks for last night and all" said John.
"Dude, your my best friend, I wasn't about to let some Jack*** father hurt you or Mary" said Danny.
John smiled sheepishly "He is more than that."
"God I never thought it would come to this" said John.
"Wish it didn't either" said Danny.
"You guys don't even know what it has been like all theses years, my whole life" said John, "Its been bad, but not like this. I want to be able to save some part of Mary's childhood, but I think its over, her innocence is gone."
"You can still save it and she is still a innonence little girl" said Danny.
"I just don't know Danny, I just don't know" said John.
Mary soon woke up and came out.
John picked her up and put her on his lap. She looked up at his face.
"Does it hurt?" she asked.
"No not really, Im fine" said John.
"Why did dad do that?" asked Mary.
Danny walked away at this moment.
"I don't know Mary, I really wish I could answer that for you but I don't know why, only he knows why" said John.
'"Hmmm I guess that makes sense" said Mary, "Im afraid of him, I just don't want to go back."
"I know and I'm not going to go back. I don't want you to be afraid of him, because Im not going to let him hurt you anymore" said John.
They continued talking while John made her breakfest.
"Mary, I need to go talk to someone today" said John, "So you are going to stay here with Danny."
"But I don't want you to leave" she got real worried.
"I will be back Mary, it is really important that I do this" said John, "Im going to make sure you don't have to go back."
"Can I come?" she asked
"No Mary, you will be fine, Danny won't let anything happen to you" said John.
Danny then came in hearing the end of the conversation.
"Don't worry Mary, I promise you nothing will happen to you, we will have fun" said Danny.
Mary was skeptical but agreed. John soon left after breakfest.
He arrived to talk to the lawyer.
"Listen, you will have no problem getting Mary, but CPS does have to get involved that would be the only way for you to get her. They will see that he is unsuitable and then that will only help you" said the lawyer.
"But won't that hurt me, because I never said anything before?"asked John.
"Well it could, but it probably won't. You didn't know what really was happening and how bad it got. You had to leave to protect yourself" replied the lawyer.
"But what about last night or when she came to me" asked John.
"Well thats the questionable part, they may say, that you were endangering her, because you didn't say anything or report it" said the lawyer, "That will be the one thing against you that CPS won't like, and what you father's lawyer will make a case about, that and your age and that fact that you left."
"All I need to do is protect her and not let her go back. I need her to be with me" said John.
"You chances for that are so great, we can definetly make a good case" said the lawyer.
"So whats the first step, I send out a letter and call CPS" said the lawyer.
They continued talking before John left.
Back the house, Danny and Justin were teaching Mary how to play Mariokarts, she was actually kind of good at it.
She was standing in front of Justin as he sat on the couch, helping her use the controller.
Mary was beating Danny, They were yelling and screaming.
"Mary, you threw a turtle at me!" yelled Danny.
Mary laughed
"Here throw another one" said Justin, showing how to do it.
"No!" yelled Danny.
Mary passed Danny and she crossed the finish line.
"Yes!" she yelled.
"High five" said said Justin. Mary gave him a high five.
John walked in,
"I quit I keep loosing" said Danny.
"Your just a sore looser" said Justin.
"Whatever" said Danny he was kinda kidding.
"John! you want to play?" asked Mary.
"No thats alright Mary, have fun" said John.
John sat down on a stool.
"How was it?" asked John.
"Fine, she was ok" said Danny.
"Did all you do was play video games?" asked John.
"Ya, but what else is there to do?" asked Danny.
John shook his head.
"So what happend?" asked Danny.
John began to tell him everything that the lawyer said.
"You know what Danny? I need to call Eden" said John.
