CHAPTER FIVE

"Okay everyone who is here auditioning on this side of the seating and those here to watch over there and make no sound. thank you" the drama teacher Ms Libby says before turning around and sitting at her desk, situated right before the stage. "Now everyone settle down we have to be out of here before 3:15 so we need to get through this fast" She says hushing us down.

"I assume all of you already know what the musical is all about so I'm not going to go on about that. . . Rightio. Those auditioning for a male part. On the stage now." About seven boys slowly walk up onto the stage. "Right. You all have the song in front of you each of you will sing a verse I come around if I tell you to leave don't fight back,I will narrow you down to ten from there. Starting from the left and going down the line. Perform it. Act. Even though this song is incredibly disney you should act it as best as you can."

The music fills the auditorium. I think its from the disney movie 'teen beach movie' the up beat tune is making the rest of the people who still have to audition start grooving in their seats. Chanting and cheering for their fellow class mates.

The first boy steps forward. He is in my geology class but apart from that I have no association with him what so ever.

'You better run, run, run
'Cause here we come
Revving our engines under the sun
You're cruisin' for a bruisin'
Whoa!'

He does it simply. Occasionally clicking and winking towards the crowd but nothing that would make you go wow. The next boys pushes him playfully out of the way with a bit of sass as if to say 'this is my stage now' the other guy backs off to the side.

'Keeping me cool!
Smooth and steady!
Slicked back hair
Man, things are getting heavy!
You're cruisin' for bruisin'
Two wheels and an open road
Wrapped in leather
Ready to go!'

I can feel my foot tapping to the beat of the song. No matter what anyone says you are never too old for disney movies. And if someone tells you they don't like them. They're lying. I slowly move my butt to the edge of my seat. Where is Thomas? I think to my self. Next thing I see is Callum. He is actually a really good dancer he used to take hip hop but quit after his mates were teasing him when he was like 12. 

'Don't stop, stop the music!
We ride fast like a bullet
We do anything we want, anytime we want

We just ride, ride, ride all day!
We're not gonna live any other way!'

All of the girls in the crown scream for him. "Go Callum!" "Woooooo Callum!!" "Yeaaaaaa Callum" I have to admit he was pretty good. He stops after the last line and frowns. "Who is going to sing the next line, its for a girl-" He starts to say but someone cuts him off.  "Callum please we will just wait-" The drama teacher says, she too cut off. Next thing I know I see jack run up from the side of the curtain wearing a pink feathery boa and big white classes. what is he doing...

Jack has been Callum's competition in the drama department since he started here. he and Callum have pretty much hated each over their mutual agreement to be the best. He was clearly trying to make sure his audtion was more memorable then my brothers, and get the better part too. But callum has already been accepted to all the universitys that jack hasnt so hes not too worried I imagine. 

jack runs over and pushing Callum aside, making Callum roll his eyes and walk back.

'Bubblegum cherry pop' He pretends to put on make up and strut around in a pair of imaginary high heals. The audience roars with laughter. 
'Go to the hop
Hanging with my brother'
'Cause his friends are so hot'  He sings not fanning his face and fluttering his eyes
'While they're cruisin', for some bruisin'!

next thing i know Thomas runs out from the side of the stage and steals the spotlight from jack.

'Alright' He nods his head to jack basically saying "this is my stage now" with his body.
I went to the drive in and what did I see?
A hundred little betties all staring at me!
I was cruising,.for some LOVIN'!
I got these two wheels and an open road
Just pop that a clutch, I'm ready to go!'

He sings doing moves that I would have only ever expected to see in Greece. He starts running jumping onto a chair on of his feet on the seat left foot on the back rest. Putting his weight on the left foot her pushing letting the chair fall over with control he doesn't fall over like I would if I ever attempted that. His voice is amazing at first I couldn't tell if it was him or not. He seemed completely and utterly in his element, receiving cheers from the audience.

The rest of the song a few more boys come out none of them topping what Thomas had just done though. and you could tell that they knew this too. 

The song ends everyone stands up cheering for the boys. They step forward in enticipation and wait for my libby to speak

"Alright. From that I have chosen two people for each of the parts. Those two will have to audition again later this week to decide who will get this roll. All right. Now listen up I'm not going to repeat this again. Jack and Damion you are going to be facing off for the part of Leonard, Lucy's best friend. I haven't decided yet if he is straight or not yet so be prepared. Lucas and Callum you will be up for Jaxton. And Thomas and will you will be up for Daniel. If you don't understand your potential part. Read your script. okay. We are done here. Thank you to the boys who auditioned today the ones who didn't make the leads I am assigning you sub character parts. Thank you. Girls be here this time tomorrow for your audition" She before walking up onto the stage and slipping behind the curtains.

I start walking home. It's quite warm today with just a cool breeze occasionally relieving us from.

This heat. "Erica wait" I hear a panting voice followed by some heavy quick foot steeps. I stop and turn around to see who. Thomas. "Hey" he says breathless. Slowing his run down as he catches up with me. "hey" I say smiling and stopping letting him catch his breath."You did amazing today" I say trying to act 'cool' He laughs sweetly "thanks, I was freaking out up there. I was so convinced I wouldn't get a part, those other guys where so good!" "So were you!" I laugh. He thanks me again and we start walking down the path.

"So whats the play about any way?" I say first to break the silence. "urr I'm not really to sure, I think its kinda like a Greece sorta thing. Tots of denim and Big skirts. I think basically its two gangs fighting over this new girl who comes to town. With a lot of singing. I got a callback for the leader in the 'good' gang" he says making air quotations and smiling.

"well done, I saw!" I say happy for his achievement.

" you saw? you haven't been able to keep your eyes off me all day" He says teasing me.

"In the lunch room today?!"

"yeah. you were staring at me the whole time" He says jokingly, gently poking me in the side.

"Get off you were the one staring!" I say laughing now.

"What ever you say" he says putting his hands up in the air. "So what are you doing now?" He says stopping. "uh probably going home to study-" "study for what?" He says cutting me off "its your first day back they haven't even taught us anything yet" He had a point. I rolled my eyes "fine, I'm doing nothing. why you ask?" He grabs my hand which makes a small smile appear on my face and runs down the street. "where are we going" I say running after him to keep up. "just come on!"
