Setting: The Natural World

Yet another day, yet another time to work on the project. But, for the first time, the project didn't feel that mandatory and they were having fun with each other as ....friends.
"Hyunjin, are we friends?" Jaeyeon asked casually as she didn't find it in herself to think of him any differently.
"I'd like to think so.." He trailed off. A tame smile, that still reached his eyes, stained his face. He rested his feet on the bench he sat on, as Jaeyeon sat on a blanket with all her books sprawled about.
"Good." She smiled back to him, her smiled resembling the sun.
His heart set a blaze from the bright smile she gave him. Good. He repeated to himself.
"Okay," She shouted in the best authoritative voice she could muster. "We have all the background info, we have the drawings of each other -that I did by myself, thank you very much-, we have the cover that I also decorated by myself." She sighs dramatically. "We need baby pictures. Hyunjin, don't you have some?"
"Nope" He emphasized the 'p'. "Not one"
"Seriously? Not one?" Her voice skeptical.
"Yeah....I guess my parents didn't like me that me that much." He answered honestly. Hyunjin never felt loved at home, at school, wherever he went when he lived in the natural world. The underworld is the only place he's felt supposed love, a place of belonging. He loved it there, definitely better than anywhere he has been.
Well, maybe except with Jaeyeon. He genuinely enjoyed her company.
He didn't find himself having strong feelings for the girl, but he did enjoy being in her presence. She treated him well and he appreciated her kindness, even in its small amounts.
"So what are we going to do about the baby pictures section?" Jaeyeon snapped him from his thoughts.
"I don't know, it's not important. I'll just tell her I don't have any. It's no big deal." He reached for some papers on the blanket, wanting to change the subject.
He would use this as an opportunity to find out more about the kind of vague and mysterious girl, Lee Jaeyeon. "Alright, I have my TMI questions, are you ready?"
"Please go easy on me." She begged cutely. Hyunjin nodded, not able to keep that promise. He knew the air was going to change, he knew the comfortable aura that surrounded them would disappear, he didn't want to ask these questions but he had to.
"Do you have any regrets, Jaeyeon?" Her eyes died with the words uttered from the boy's mouth. Her eyes told a story, that she did in fact have many regrets or one big one and that made Hyunjin nervous as he had been defended her against everyone else in the underworld.
It's funny how truthful your eyes are no matter how you try to hide it. Her eyes glossed quickly and she struggled to keep the tears in; she was an emotional girl.
He pained watching the girl try to mask such emotion, but he kept his guard up.
Yes, she nodded.
He waited for her to speak.
Yeah......sorry about that.....here's a better chapter instead.
