Onika

Hey there. My name's Onika but you can call me Nicki, or Nika. I'm 21 years old and a senior in college. I was born in Trinidad but I lived in Queens, New York but me and my mother had to move because of my abusive father when I was 17. Houston, Texas was the first place that came to mind so we came here.

He wasn't always abusive... That was until I found cocaine in his drawer while I was looking for something. I showed my mom and she confronted him about it. He got mad at us and he took us both upstairs. He beat me until my body was black and blue. He mainly hit my mother in her face and it was swollen for weeks. He put my mom in a chair and hand cuffed her to it. He then raped me in front her. That was the worst day of my life.

When my dad was gone for a couple weeks for "business trips", me and my mother looked for houses in Houston, bought one, packed all of our belongings and went to the airport. When we made it to our new house, she filed for divorce. We were happy we were finally able to get away from him, and we've been in Texas ever since.

Tomorrow is the first day of school and I'm excited because it's my last year. After this I'm free. I hope this year goes by smoothly with no drama.
