Sparkle

If Kyle could translate his emotions into words, it would be a series of unintelligible screams.

The accountant becomes a frozen mess as soon as he lets Luke and himself in the apartment, questioning the actions that led to this moment.

"...But I eat at home."

Kyle meant it as a joke, but as soon as he saw the split-second sparkle in Luke's eyes, he knows he messed up. The barista immediately put his hand on Kyle's, demanding access to the latter's house.

And Kyle complies, because why would he say no?

...

"Got any movies?" Luke asks, looking around the slightly messy living room. He gives Kyle the 'what are you gonna do about this mess' look, before adding onto his question. "Otherwise we could go somewhere else."

"Well, I do have some movies in the cabinet under the TV," Kyle answers, picking up after his mess. "Pick anything you like, 'cause I love all of them."

About five minutes pass when Kyle starts to get tired of organizing his possessions that he calls for his date whether he picked a movie to watch or not.

Luke makes himself comfortable by sitting on the carpeted floor, with a pile of taken-out Blu-rays by his crossed legs. "No! There's so many of the good ones that I can't pick!"

Kyle sighs, not sure whether to take it as a compliment or an obvious sign of the man's indecisiveness. He sighs, figuring that it's both. "Unless you plan to sleep over then you gotta start picking one!"

And then the apartment goes silent. Kyle shrugs the quietude off as the other's decisive moment, so he visits the kitchen to begin preparing the popcorn for them to share.

But the answer is unexpected — even to Luke himself.

"Well, I don't mind that!" Luke replies, his voice sounding a little too close to enthusiastic.

The accountant curses as he almost spills some kernels on the floor. He tries to dig up for a response, but he's too busy watching the popcorn to even think of any.

Luke on the other hand is immediately regretting his answer. He punches himself on the thigh, but it's not enough to recover from the grave he just dug for himself. He hopes that changing the topic would ease some, if not most of the awkwardness out.

He nearly stutters the first syllable. "Oh, and I found one! It's Wreck It Ralph, though I like the panda one better..."

Kyle sighs. The popcorn's finished, and he really wants to sit down on the couch with his date. He exits the kitchen with a big bowl of popcorn on his hands, and motions Luke to stand up.

"Let's just watch both, okay? You did say you didn't mind sleeping over, right?" Kyle winks, placing the popcorn down on the coffee table. He pops the Wreck It Ralph disc out and feeds it  to the Blu-Ray player.

Luke sits on the couch, defeated by his date's bold comeback. He watches the other locking the door and blocking any sunlight out, turning the lights off before plopping down on the couch inches beside him.

"...Where am I going to sleep, though?" Luke flirts back, watching the TV turn on.

"Well, where do you want to sleep? You can sleep with me if you want," Kyle suggests.

Luke only replies with a blank stare, and Kyle immediately realizes the context he just gave him. "On the bed, I mean. Like, the act of closing our eyes and possibly cuddling each other on the soft mattress in my bedroom."

The other turns back to the TV, relieving himself with a sigh. "Right. I knew that."

And then his eyes widen in realization. "Wait, did you just say cuddling?!"

Kyle doesn't try to hold back his laughter, laughing for a good minute as the opening credits play. "God, you're so funny." Luke frowns at him, and he smiles back. "I mean, if you want to cuddle on the first date then sure, I'm up to it. I'm just saying that I'm completely open to the idea of us sleeping on the same bed," he explains.

Luke entertains the idea of spooning the other in his head, and smiles unconsciously.

"And you know what? Me too."
