Today was the big day. The interrogation. As I called it. I already knew she was about to grill this man with 1003 questions. I rolled my eyes at the very thought of it all. I knew I wouldn't get past the warden until this conversation happened. I called my Dad to see how far away he was. I was more than ready to get this over with.
My pops showed up exactly at 3, and texted me letting me know he was outside. When I walked outside I noticed my Grandma was at the kitchen table with a pencil and a pad, a mean look on her face and her legs and arms folded. Extra.
"Hey Daddy."
"Wassup, my son?"
"Not much, ready to get this over with so we can go."
"Makes two of us son."
I tried to make light of the situation by letting out chuckle, but even that couldn't break the tension coming from way outside my home.
"Well hello there, Mr. Deshawn Boone."
Let the interrogation begin.
"How you been Ms. Gwen?"
"Gwendolyn. I manage. What you doin' out here in these parts?"
Rude. She promised me she'd be nice. I nudged her feet. She looked at me. She winked. I didn't find the start of this amusing at all.
"Just tryna' pick up the last of my bunch for a little ole' sleepover. Nothing serious."
"That's nice. You mind if I ask you a few questions?"
"No problem. Ask away, ma'am."
"What's your address? Phone number?"
He wrote down his complete address, making sure not to miss anything. Not even the zip code along with his phone number. He looked it over twice before handing it to her, cause he must have known like I knew, her ass was definitely going to Mapquest all the information he provided her.
"Thank you, sir. Here's my telephone number. When I call either one of y'all I expect a answer on the first call. Do I make myself crystal clear? Please don't make me come and bust your door down and snatch my grand baby up from your little apartment."
We both looked at each other and said "Yes, ma'am."
"Alright."
Was this the end? Could we finally go now?
"Look, Mr. Boone. Watch out for my baby, he's all I got. If anything happens to him, your ass is gone be the one I hunt down, you got me?"
"Yes ma'am."
She turned and looked at me.
"And you, I want you to have fun tonight but please be aware of your surroundings."
"Yes ma'am."
She gave me a heartfelt hug and told us get lost. I had the warden's official signed off approval! I ran in my room and quickly packed my bags, I kissed my Grandma bye and me and my pops jetted out the door.
I know this sleepover is going to be lit!
