I do not own Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus or Young Justice (unfortunately). Those honours go to Rick Riordan, Brandon Vietti and Greg Weisman.
Percy looked up, horrified. All around her were her friends, her people, falling in battle.
Percy saw Piper and Jason overwhelmed by a group of empousa. No amount of charmspeak could have saved them as the empousa fell upon them hungrily, lead by the so-called 'avengers of Kelli'. The couple were quickly rendered unrecognisable. A quick death, Percy thought, painful, but quick. Not slow and agonising. At least the Fates gave them that.
Growling, Percy turned back at the task at hand, only to flinch when a massive explosion lit up the ashy sky. She spun around, to others seeming like a blur, swinging her sword. In the corner of her eye, she could see a Roman onager surrounded by gaping members of Camp Jupiter in dirty Imperial gold armour and one smug, skinny, blond and cowardly bastard.
Octavian.
Oh, how badly she wanted to kill him. But Percy filed it away for later. Kill the monsters now, kill Octavian later. Good plan. 100% foolproof.
Two (very minor) good things happened because of the explosion.
The first was that it had lit up the battlefield. This meant that she could see just how bad their side was going. The Ares cabin was locked in combat with a mix of Earthborn and Laistrygonians. This, however, also meant that Percy could see the situation that Frank and Hazel had just gotten themselves in.
The second thing was that Gaia was distracted. She had risen about ten minutes ago and, like all good army commanders do (note the sarcasm), she had just stood there laughing. Gaia had cackled as demigods fell to her army, and Percy could have sworn that she had outright roared when Jason and Piper fell in combat. But as soon as Leo went up in demigod coloured flames, Gaia had looked up, distracted. She paused for a minute, transfixed by the beautiful flames dancing on an ashy background. But Gaia looked away quickly and saw the predicament that Frank and Hazel had gotten into.
They had been surrounded by hordes of hungry hellhounds. Hazel was frantically stabbing at the monsters with her sword, but there were too many. Her short stature worked against her, and Hazel was soon stamped on by the numerous hellhounds. Frank saw and he cried out, furious. He put down his bow and arrow and turned into a bear. It should have helped him defeat them, but it only made him look like an even tastier Frank-flavoured snack. The monsters circled him once, then pounced.
Percy focused back to cutting monsters down. She was a killing machine. Permitting herself one short sob, Percy looked at Annabeth, who was by her side. She looked just as sick yet determined as Percy felt.
"All of them Wise Girl, all of them" Percy brokenly whispered.
"I - I know, my love," She attempted to calm the shattered demigod, "but right now, we need to keep our heads in the game. We can't lose focus now. We are WAY too deep into this mess. There will be time for - for mourning later."
[Yes, they are in a lesbian relationship. Deal with it.]
Percy blinked sweat, dirt, tears and blood out of her eyes. She had to focus. Gaia was ahead of her, and Percy knew that it would take at least both Annabeth and her to defeat Queen Dirt Face. Gaia had gotten bored with Hazel and Frank, but was still grinning gleefully at the broken bodies of other demigods getting hauled away by the Apollo cabin.
"Oi! You! Potty Face! Don't you want some action? Isn't it just so boring up there, where you can't get in on the fun? We could give you fun! My girlfriend and I, we can fight for your entertainment. We could give you something to look forward to when the battle is over. We did in the Pit! We can do it again!" Annabeth croaked out, loud enough for Gaia to hear.
"Umm, Annabeth?" Percy hissed.
"Relax Seaweed Brain, I have a plan." Annabeth murmured back. Percy nodded, trusting her girlfriend.
Percy and Annabeth charged into battle with renewed energy, clearing a path towards Gaia. They had just gotten there when Annabeth gave a soft scream and crumpled. There as a massive spear through her stomach, thrown by Enceladus, the bane of Athena. Percy fell to her knees beside Annabeth, a sobbing wreck. She glanced up to see Athena and Malcolm, both equally devastated and furious, kill the giant.
"I hope I won't be seeing you for a while, Perseus Jackson."
"My Wise Girl, please. Please don't leave me alone," Percy begged her girlfriend.
"My love, take your time." Annabeth took one last breath, somewhere between a gasp and a cough, and the light left her grey eyes.
"No, please, No," Percy said, hugging Annabeth's limp body tighter.
"You're welcome, sweetie," Gaia mockingly whispered, "it's much better this way, isn't it? Just you and me."
Percy was livid. Her vision tunnelled and she moved towards Gaia with murderous intent. The monsters parted around her and closed back up, surrounding Percy, but she did not care. Fuming, she created a mini hurricane between the two of them. As soon as Dirt Face was off the ground, Percy started swinging Riptide, tears forming clean streaks down her grime-covered face.
"This is for Jason and Piper. Hazel and Frank. Leo. And. ANNABETH" She shouted the last name. Her eyes were glowing slightly, a vivid sea green. Percy grunted one final time and, with a desperate screech, Gaia disintegrated into nothingness.
As soon as their leader fell, the monsters started loosing. All the Greek and Roman demigods and gods felt their spirits rising and fought harder and harder. The Ares Cabin had members of the Fifth Cohort amongst them. Together, they hacked, stabbed and slashed at the Earthborn and Laistrygonians. Some of the monsters had tried to outright run away, only to be killed at the hands of a battered yet determined demigod. The giants held their ground a little bit longer, but were still decimated by the gods and demigods by their sides.
Percy lowered her sword, exhausted. She swayed a couple of times, bleakly looking around at all the destruction that had happened on Half-Blood Hill. Percy weakly smiled a few time when she saw how the tide was turning. Then, she collapsed next to Annabeth's bloody body. Percy slowly moved her hand towards her dead girlfriend's arm. Despite the condition that Percy was in, she grasped Annabeth's arm like a vice. Groaning, Percy shut out the world and closed her eyes.
