"It was awesome but we lost it
It's not possible for me not to care
And now we're standing in the rain
But nothing's ever gonna change until you hear, my dear."
- Miley CyrusAt first, I couldn't see him as a whole crowd of standing people blocked me. Then when the everyone sat down, I saw his face for the first time in six years.
I breathed as I took him all in. He looked absolutely dashing, no doubts about it. His face still perfectly structured, his eyes still the brightest green. The only thing that changed was his hair, which instead of being a curly mess, now were short and well set. Honestly, it made him look more mature, more beautiful than ever.
I felt Jaden touch my shoulder from behind. "You okay?", he whispered. I nodded slightly and sat down. I was having difficulty breathing and it was concerning me a bit. I drank some water and hoped my heart would stop beating uncontrollably.
Jaden looked at me but I avoided his gaze. I didn't want him to see me so flustered. Why was I flustered anyway? It's not like I was still in love with him. I was already engaged to someone else, who I loved a lot.
I felt Athena tugging my hand. "Mommy, why did we all stand up? Who is here?", she asked. I took in a breath, feeling somewhat normal. "That, baby, was the King of Luxembourg. And since he's a king, we have to stand out of respect. And he's Auntie Renée's brother."
"King? So can we meet him?", she asks, eagerly. Never! I wanted to scream. Instead I said, "I think so. If he has time." "But why is a king here at Eric and Madison's wedding?"
"Because, baby, the king is Eric's friend. A very good friend.", I reply. "So I'll ask Eric if I can meet him.", she says and runs away to find him before I can stop her. I look at Jaden in despair and he shrugs.
Athena comes back with Eric in her hand. "Mommy! Eric says that I can meet the king. Now can I meet him?" I sigh. She wasn't going to rest until she gets to meet him. I had no choice. "Fine. But take Jaden with you."
She dances a bit and takes Jaden hand and tries to pull him towards Phil. I bite my lip nervously. I hoped that Phil would understand and respect my decision to tell Athena about us later.
I looked at him. He was talking to Eric and a girl was next to him. Was that Hermione? I studied her. She was so beautiful. And the way Phil held her by her waist, she was definitely his girlfriend. I tried to look away, but I couldn't. She was smiling at something he was saying, probably at one of his terrible jokes. Then she kissed his cheek.
I groaned and looked at the plate food in front of me. I stuffed my mouth with it just so I could have something to do. He wasn't even bothered to look at me. Then I shouldn't too. Instead, I tried to involve myself in the talk that Liam and Renée's boyfriend were having.
Phil's POV
"Ready?", I ask Hermione, who walked towards me with a small clutch in hand. She really looked pretty. She nodded to me and we got in the elevator. As soon we got out, my heart started beating fast. I was about to see Amelia after so long. Will I still see burning hatred in her eyes or will she have forgiven me?
Min clutched my hand and broke my thoughts. Oh right. We had to act as a couple. I tightened my grip and we went in the room. The whole room went silent and everyone stood up.
I nodded slightly and they all sat down. I searched the crowd for the only face I that cared about, but I couldn't find her. She must have taken a table that was far back, or must have not come yet.
"You okay?", Min asked me. I nod, not really listening to her. "Who are you looking for? Eric?", she asks. "No, nobody. I'm not looking for anyone." I say as I put an arm around her waist.
