Peter has a lot of friends Tony does not approve of. Not in the slightest. During the whole 'Evil Lizard' incident last year, Peter met Eddie Brock (who, him by himself Tony doesn't inherently hate. Tony had always enjoyed watching his show) who turned out to be one half of a duo. A giant, alien, head-eating duo.
That was the part that Tony wasn't so keen on.
Tony wasn't exactly sure how it happened, but at some point over the months that Peter had been going on patrols with Venom (the one who eats people) they had become like siblings. Tony had once asked Eddie what his intentions with his son was--and Peter had complained at that while his face turned a bright red--and Eddie had merely responded with "He's like a little brother to me. Got to keep him safe."
So yeah, Tony was okay with Eddie. But when Tony had talked to Venom, he could tell the symbiote was just thinking of different ways he could eat him. And that made him less likeable.
But Peter liked them ("Dad he's just confused! He's an alien, he doesn't understand human culture!") so they stayed, much to Tony's chagrin.
The other one that Tony absolutely hated (more so than the man-eating alien) was Harry Osborn.
And Tony knew that that was probably weird, to prefer the thing that enjoys biting people's heads off versus the son of one of his biggest competitors, and yet here he was. Tony hated Norman Osborn, so by default he hated his son too.
Peter and Harry had gotten to know each other over the Oscorp Internship (that Tony was still bitter about) and had gotten even closer when Harry had moved to Peter's school. Now Peter's group of friends from school including Ned and Gwen, had gained one new member. Harry still didn't know about Peter's true parentage and Tony intended to keep it that way. There was no way he was having Peter be used by Norman's selfish greed.
And yet, every time Peter comes home gushing about the fun he had at Osborn's house (another thing that he absolutely hated) Tony let it slide, gritting his teeth at the stories so long as he could see the excitement on his son's face.
And Tony was way too stressed out to waste anymore time worrying about his less-than-desirable friends now that he had a wedding to plan.
Not his own, of course. (Much to Peter's displeasure) But a wedding to one Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes.
It had taken a while--the whole time that Bucky was in the tower actually--for Tony to get over his problem with the two of them. While there were still topics that they weren't allowed to go to (i.e the affair or divorce) but it was pretty civil now.
There were no hard feelings when Bucky proposed to Steve. (Only Peter elbowing him in the gut with a whisperer "When are you going to get back out there, eh?") And while things were no longer tense between the three of them, Tony was less than thrilled when they asked him to help plan the wedding.
So there was that. And of course after seeing the proposal, Peter's got it in his head that Tony's long overdue for a date. And as much as Tony attempts to rid that silly idea out of his brain, it's brought up everyday at the smallest things.
("So...you're still single." "And you're still grounded.")
("Pepper looks nice today. You should go tell her that." "Why don't you?" "Huh--" "HEY PEP! PETER THINKS YOU'RE HOT!" "Daaaad!")
But of course the pestering would not stop. Finally Tony had enough. He had awkwardly walked downstairs to where Pepper and Rhodey were conversing and had asked her to join him for a meal. Pepper had smirked, given him her number and sauntered away like the powerful woman she is.
Peter had been over the moon. He jumped up and down, ecstatic when Tony had casually slipped in the date he had with her the next day. It seemed like all was well. The date Tony had with her went well and pretty soon they were scheduling another and another.
Everything was finally looking up for the Stark family.
(But then, it's been mentioned before just how mean Lady Luck was to them.)
