Okay so, quick note at the beginning:
I didn't have time to read this chapter over completely and I don't know if all the songs fit. Maybe I'll change some of them later, but it's 1am now and I need to get this chapter out now because I'm not sure if I'll be able to do so tomorrow. So, I'm really sorry for any typos or songs that don't fit :(Songs of the chapter:
Edge of Town by Middle Kids
Sorry by Nothing but Thieves
Feeling Whitney by Post Malone
Nola 1 by PVRIS
Roslyn by Cullen~
One week and three days after Jeongguk's confession, they go on their first date.
To say Taehyung is nervous would be the understatement of the century; for about an hour, he has been pacing through his room, way too early for him to start out for the city. He is completely ready. He put on a nice pair of grey pants and a white button-up shirt with flowers on it that he usually never wears because it is too expensive for that – his mother bought it for him and told him only to wear it on festive occasions, and Taehyung feels like today is one of those. He even cleaned his sneakers.
He did his hair earlier today, then overdid it until the strands were sticking together and he looked like a 2008 idol with greasy hair, so he washed his hair again and decided it would be best to do his hair like he usually does. Now, it looks good – or, normal, which is not very special. He hopes Jeongguk won't mind.
So now, Taehyung paces through his room. Sometimes, he sits down, but he has a hard time sitting still, so he gets up again and starts pacing once more. For the fifth time during the last hour, Taehyung sprays himself with deodorant and almost suffocates from the fragrance, so he hurries over to the window and rips it open.Jeongguk has been secretive about his plans for today. No matter how many times Taehyung begged him to tell him, he stayed silent with nothing but a smug grin on his face. It drove Taehyung insane, but now, he is kind of grateful. He loves surprises, and he is as nervous as he used to be on Christmas as a child.
When the time for him to leave finally comes, he almost stumbles on his way downstairs, that's how fast he runs. His mother, coming from the living room, gives him a confused look.
"Taehyungie, are you alright?"
Taehyung straightens himself up and nods. "Yes! I'm alright, everything's just fine!"
She raises her eyebrows. "If you say so."
Before she can turn away, Taehyung quickly says, "I'm out with Jeongguk, yeah?" At that, his mother throws him a surprised glance.
"With that shirt?" she asks, "What is it, a date?" And she means it as a joke, but when she sees her son madly blushing, she halts.
"Wait," she says, slowly, "Taehyung-ah."
"It's nothing," he shrugs it off, "Jeonggukie, he... he has a girlfriend and... he wants me to meet her. Uh..." He rubs his neck, thinking hard to make his excuse believable. "He takes us out for dinner, you know?"
"It's noon," his mother notices and furrows her brows.
"Right." Taehyung nods, pressing his lips together, "Right. That's... that's correct. It's currently 1.17pm, it's noon, and people normally don't have dinner yet." His eyes flicker up to the clock hanging on the wall right above his mother's head. "Buuut..."
"But?" she asks, the desperate expression on her face reflecting how helpless her weird son is making her feel at times.
"But," Taehyung picks up again, "We are actually going somewhere else before."
"And that would be?"
"The... the movies."
"Oh." His mother nods acknowledging, "Which movie?"
Frick, Taehyung is screwed. He chews on his bottom lip, frantically thinking of any movie title that got stuck in his head after driving past the theater over the past few days.
"Uhhh," he says, "I – Minions?"
His mother's eyebrows rise even more. It looks almost comical. Taehyung tries to smile to come off as more convincing.
"Minions," his mother repeats, "I didn't know you liked kid's stuff."
"I don't," Taehyung replies right away, maybe a bit too fast, "Jeongguk does."
"Oh."
"Yeah, that's right. Jeongguk likes Minions. In fact, he loves them. So now, I like them, too. Go Minions!"
His mother purses her lips and gives him a pitying look. Taehyung knows he has lost.
