Knock knock

The door creeped open as I saw my little sister, still a bandage on her shoulder.

"Lily!" I shouted, lunging at her. I stopped myself right before I got to her, remembering that she had a bullet in her shoulder less than a month ago.

"Sorry, I-I forgot.." I said, backing away and rubbing my neck. It's almost as though I can't stand to see her. Joven's dead. It's not her fault at all, but I see Joven in her eyes.

"It's OK... Hey bud!" Lily said, crouching to look imbetween my legs. It was clear she was trying to avoid me, knowing how close I was with Joven. She wasn't really, but after what happened, anything that reminded her of Joven, including me, she either cries or blocks it out completely.

Tyler slowly peaked around from under my legs, waving at his aunt Lily.

"Hey Ty." I told him, handing him the small box.

"Hand this to auntie Lily."

Tyler excitedly ran up to Lily and gave her the box.

Lily looked confused, looking up at me, for the first time in years.
K
She opened the tiny box and covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face.

"You need it more than I do."

She lifted up the crochet batman doll and gave it a squeeze. She looked at it once more and opened the door a little bigger.

"Come in, both of you." She smiled at David. There were tears still running down her face, and more glistening at the corner of her eyes.

I was walking in as I felt a tap on the back. I turned around to see Lily, her arms open. I leaned in and squeezed her, making sure not to touch the bandages.

"You're the best brother I could ever ask for."

--

We've caught up almost entirely in only 30 minutes. Apparently nothing much has really changed. Accept apparently she has a fiance...

"Hey guys!" Speaking of.

A large, pale man with glasses and thick hair walked down. I knew him from somewhere, but he is still in the darkness of the stairwell. As soon as he got to open light, I saw him.

"Damien?" I shouted, standing up. I knew him immediately. We haven't hung out very much, but the blue in his hair made me sure of it.

"So you two have met!" Lily exclaimed. It was clear she was excited, but I kinda had to ruin it for her.

"You're engaged to my sister and you didn't even tell me?" I was pissed. He knew me. He had my number, and Lily's last name is still Moss. He had no idea to tell me first?

"I-I... I guess I didn't put two and two together... I'm really sorry Dave." He scratched the back of his neck, a nervous habit I guess. I smiled at him. I was upset, but I know how sweet Damien is. Lily and Damien will be happy. I know it.

--

It's been 3 months since what happened to Joven. I haven't read any letters, but I know I should. I'm waiting until after the wedding, me being Damien's best man. Me and him aren't even that great of friends, but he knows how much it means to me, and Lily.

There he was. Standing at the alter, nervous as all hell. He was fiddling with his collar and biting his lip, making me nervous. I stood behind him, just a little bit. I grabbed his shoulder and squeezed it a little. He jumped.

"Hey, it's OK Damien. You'll do fine."

He looked back at me and smiled. I could see the sweat pouring down his face. I was about to whisper something again, when,

WHAM!

The doors to the chapel flew open, and I saw my sister, wearing a puffy dress, and a vail about 15 feet long. It feel behind her, and I saw Tyler, picking it up at the end. He had a permanent smile on his face.

I look at Damien, who's eyes are flooded with tears. I smiled at him, it's the same as it was at my wedding.

Lily rushed down the isle, a lot faster than she should have, but she was very excited. Her long, blond hair was curled into waves, going to her waist. Her makeup was spectacular, I could see tiny peices of glitter surrounding her cheekbone. She had the widest smile, and that was when I knew, it was going to be OK.

"Greetings everyone." The pastor exclaimed once Lily had reached the alter. Her and Damien were whispering, but I couldn't hear.

"Before we start this ceremony, I would like everyone of you to know that this service was held in the memory of Joshua Evan Ovenshire."

He pointed to a picture of Joven, and I smiled. I knew he was happy. He was watching over us, and wherever he ended up, he was with Kate. That was the only thing keeping me at peace.

--

As the service continued, I occasionally glanced at the photo. He was so happy. I stared back at Lily, who had tears rolling down her face.

"I, Lillian Margaret Moss, promise to take care of you during sickness and in health, during day and during night, during wealth and during poverty, and I promise to be kind and supportive of anything you do. Since the kidnapping, I have never felt truly happy. Until I saw you, standing at the alter, in your fancy suit. I was then remembered that I am marrying the best man on earth. Sorry Dave."

We all giggled, as Damien said his vows.

"I, Damien C. Haas, only she gets to know, promise to take care of you during sickness and in health, during day and during night, during wealth and during poverty, and I promise to be kind and supportive of anything you do. From the moment I laid my eyes on you, I couldn't get you out of my head. You were all I saw when I closed my eyes, all I thought about when you were gone, and all I wanted to see when I woke up in the morning. Now, with us getting married, I can. I can wake up next to you every morning. I can promise to kiss your boo boos and be with you whenever you need me. And Lily, that's all I need."

I smiled at his vows. They said their I do's, and kissed, as I pretend gagged. We then went on to the ceremony, happy as ever, where I was able to make a toast.

"Hello! Most of you all know me, I'm Lily's sister, and I only have a few things to say. Lily, I am the most proud of you I think I could ever be. Until I get a nice or nephew. Then I will be prouder."

Everyone giggled.

"And Damien, Just remeber. I'm a pretty ok guy. So if you hurt my sister. You better know a good place to hide and get there before she can tell me about it. But Damien, I know you would never. Because you are marrying my sister. My sister knows how to influence people. Anyway, congratulations you two. I'm over the moon for you both."

I sat back don't and everyone continued with their meals.

Everything felt good in that moment.

I hope that moment will stay forever.
