Kyran pov:

I watched Kiana as she slept beside me with her head against my shoulder and Yukio on her lap. He, in turn, was sleeping with his head on her shoulder, as if they were mother and son. I suppose it wasn't strange to see them like that since they did have such a bond...no, they were the same person, the same existence and it was only natural for them to be so close.

We were returning from another mission, having taken care of some rebels wrecking havoc in Ston City. As usual, Kiana didn't want to seriously injure any of the men and merely let them be taken into custody by the military after a violent fight. As a result, we had taken a bit of damage during moments when we held back and were left with an opening – they weren't serious wounds though, just a few scratches and bruises. Kiana hadn't healed our injuries and had a doctor from the military wrap them in bandages, insisting that she didn't want to rouse suspicion. I knew that it was also because she didn't want us to have special treatment unnecessarily – she had said so once before, also mentioning that it made one understand the importance of life and the need to be careful in any situation. She was so strong willed yet so compassionate...and I couldn't help but very much admire that about her.

I was thoroughly grateful to have been saved by her and given the chance to live a normal life like any other human around me. I knew that I could never be a full human, all the more because of the ears and tails that proved my half wolf existence, but Kiana had made it so easy for me to feel normal. She doted me and protected me like any other person she was close to – no, that was an understatement. She cared for me like she cared for no other and there were no words that I could use to express my gratitude to her.

I reached out to move some strands of hair off her face and she hummed at the contact. She didn't wake though and made herself more comfortable on my shoulder. I couldn't help but smile barely visibly at that. If I hadn't been led astray at a young age and turned into a Chimera, I would have had a family of my own and, possibly, a child the same age as Kiana. It's unfortunate that I hadn't been blessed with such a life but it didn't stop me from seeing a family in Kiana...considering her as my daughter. And as a parent, I had vowed to protect her and stand as her pillar of support no matter what.

Feeling a swell of happiness in my chest, I looked away from her and ahead. My smile faltered though when I noticed the two women sitting in front of us watching me with an expression of displeasure. They noticeably glanced at my ears and tail and looked away disgusted. I resisted from sighing, not in the mood to let them bother me. I looked out of the window but was forced to meet the sharp eyes of the women when one of them spoke.

"Who let a creature like you on the train?" she spat. "How audacious...I can't imagine why something as hideous as you would be allowed to travel with us humans."

Hideous...the word amused me. If she was calling my current form hideous, I wondered would she call me if she saw my full wolf Chimera form.

"And look at him touching that girl and her child so shamelessly! You should get away from them this instant!" the other woman snapped. I narrowed my eyes just a bit and they tensed at that but it didn't stop them from continuing their insults.

"H-how dare you look at us that way! We'll call the guards to throw you out!"

"I'd like to see you try," I said coolly and it angered them more. It had been a very long time since I had heard such insults from people. Kiana had always made sure that I didn't experience even the slightest bit of my past but it was obvious that it couldn't be avoided when she was asleep.
