Kyran pov: [name means dusky/dark haired]

I regained consciousness only to feel excruciatingly sore and with a pounding headache – it was much worse than how I felt after I was forced to transform and go after innocent civilians and slaughter them under the order of the Lords. I clearly remember being injected with the drug, though not more than half the usual dosage I was given, and my innards felt like they were being scorched by the hottest of fire. I was certain that I would die when I had returned to my human form, that I would be left to rot if not killed immediately, and die withering in the pain, my flesh being destroyed from the inside.

But I wasn't lying on the cold hard ground and I didn't feel like I was rotting away in some dark depths. I was lying on something soft and a blanket was put over me to keep me warm. I also heard hushed whispers of a man and a woman quite close by, though their words were unclear because I was in too much pain to concentrate hard enough. I could make out a few words every now and then as I became more and more conscious of my surroundings – I even got the scent of the two humans who were speaking. One had a sweet scent, that of fresh dew covered flowers on a rainy afternoon, and the other had a scent that was a mix of mild cologne and cigarettes.

I shifted slightly, the feeling in my limbs having returned, and groaned at the strain I felt in my body. Almost immediately, I heard shuffling and the two scents got closer and stronger. It was difficult to peel my eyes open but when I did, the light was more than I could handle and I closed my eyes with a wince. I blinked several times so my eyes could adjust and when I could keep them open long enough, I noticed two pairs of eyes peering into mine. The amethyst orbs held gentleness, worry and relief and the turquoise gaze held curiosity.

"Hey there....it's great to see that you're finally awake." A soft voice cooed. "How do you feel?"

I tensed and my eyes went wide in a moment of pure terror when I realized that I was talking to someone besides the Lords. I didn't know who these people were or whether they were good or bad – well, perhaps anyone would be better than the Lords at least – and I felt the desperate need to get away from them and out of possible harm's way.

My body reacted involuntarily, out of instinct, and I shot up to sitting position only to regret it. I felt an electric shock through my body because of the intense pain and I doubled over as the air was squeezed out of my lungs before falling on my side onto whatever I was lying on and curling up. My chest was constricted tightly and I coughed, tasting blood in my mouth and choking from the lack of air.

"Hey! Get a hold of yourself! Breathe! Breathe and relax....slowly." I heard the soft voice again but it was louder and laced with anxiousness. I also felt a gentle touch on my shoulder and it was comforting.

I did as I was told, out of habit, and took slow, controlled breaths and replenish my burning lungs with the air they begged for. It helped and my body relaxed soon, though leaving me exhausted and sweating. I opened my eyes again slowly and turned my head to see a girl with the amethyst eyes looking over me in worry. When our gazes met though, she heaved a sigh of relief and gave the softest smile I had ever seen anyone give.

"You're okay....you're going to be okay." She said airily and placed a hand on her chest over her heart. "Haa...that gave me quite a fright."

"He's going to be okay, Kiana san, don't worry." The man said and I looked at him to see him smiling. I noticed that he had blonde hair and wore the military uniform.

It was then that it hit me – these two people were soldiers. I was sure to be in a lot of trouble, now that I had fallen into the hands of the military.

I sighed deeply and pushed up on one arm to sit up. The girl reached out to help me but I slapped her hand away more gently than I intended to. When I was sitting up and holding my torso that was throbbing and burning, I looked between the two soldiers warily. I narrowed my eyes at the girl as I stared at her for longer, having got the feeling that I had seen her before. Wasn't she the one who had spoken to me when my transformation to the monster I am was reversed?
