Chapter 2: A New Body

The next morning I put on a pair of jeans and a light blue t-shirt that looked like it was a size to big, but that was how I wore my clothes, I shoved on my shoes.

We were standing next to our link units, there was a room with a large window looking into it, there were three avatars there, and they were all lying on a gurney.

The three of us lay in our links, I heard Grace exchange a few words with Jake before I closed the link lid and let my mind go blank, like we had practiced in training over and over again.

My vision was blurred; my hearing was slow and murmured. A light was being shone in my eyes and someone was clicking next to my ears, everything focused, two people in the exo-masks were standing in front of my face,  

“You don’t need to be standing that close to me, I won’t run away,” I said with a smile,

“Nice to see someone didn’t lose their funny attitude,” the female nurse said,

I sit up and find I have Jake to my left and Norm to my right, great I’m in the middle.

Suddenly Jake decided to stand, oh no, his arms and tail were flailing everywhere trying to find his balance, the nurses were trying to get him to sit, but he wasn’t listening,

Jake, sit,” I tried telling him, “JAKE!! GET YOUR ASS BACK ON THAT GURNEY!!!”

That stopped everything in the room, except Jake who was charging out of the door, I took out the few cords in me and gracefully stood up and ran after Jake.

After a conversation with Grace in her avatar form, (she seemed a hell of a lot more pleasant in her Na’vi form), I roughly grabbed Jake by his neck and waked him back to the room to be assessed by the nurses.

I was in one of the long houses, used to house the avatar bodies, I had a bed beside Jake and wasn’t really paying attention to him, I was interested in the long stretch of braided hair I had, the end of it had short fuzzy tentacle-like things coming out, you could see them easily if you removed the black hair concealing them. The lights went out and I crawled under the sheets and fell asleep.

I was a bit disoriented when I came back to my human form. I came out of the link and sat up then sighed, the felling was amazing, when I got to run, I thought to myself, I stood up and looked around, the same place, grey, lifeless, I realized then that I loved Pandora and I never wanted to leave.

I was sitting at the table eating breakfast,

“So, you swear?” Jake suddenly asked,

“Only when people don’t listen to me and I really need them to listen,” I quietly said,

Trudy came around,

“Clarity, how are you doing?” Trudy asked,

“As well as can be expected,” I said,

“Good,” she replied with a knowing gaze, “Sully, the Colonel wants to see you in the armor bay,”

“See you around, Claire,” I shook my head at her for using her nickname for me.
