'You', Anubha exclaimed. The word was practically dripping in disappointment. Her first born, her son, has done this to a girl.
In one step she was in front of him and slapped him. Ishaan could feel the sting of the slap from across the room. He has never seen mother so angry. He sucked in a deep breath and jumped to his brothers defence.
'Mum, dada risked his life and saved her, rescued her from the clutches of Rudra, Usha's cousin. But, I admit, me and Dada did sone miscalculation, which is why Rudra got to Isha in the first place, but that was a mistake. Not deliberate. If you see the wounds on Dada, you will know, how hard he worked to get Isha.'
Anubha did not soften.
'Apparently, his efforts were not enough. The girl looks like death'.
Indra took in a sharp breath and cast an anxious glance at the bed. Did she really? He looked accusingly at Ishaan.
Ishaan understood his anxiety. Their mother did not realise how much Indra loved Isha, but he knew. Any mention of death will tip him over the edge, not the greatest idea right now.
'Isha is fine Ma, just sleeping. When she wakes up, maybe you can show her what a great cook her mother-in-law is. Good food and lots of rest is what she needs.'
Anubha was observing Indra intently. His pallor told her what she needed to know.
'So you married her?'Anubha asked in a softer tone.
Indra noodled absentmindedly. His mind was still mulling over what Ishaan had said.
'We need to inform her parents. We also need to get them here and start preparations for a marriage ceremony.' Anubha stated in a firm voice.
The mention of marriage irritated Indra.
'I have already married the girl twice, how many more times do I need to do it?'
Anubha looked at him like he had grown two heads.
'What do you mean, twice?'
Indra tiredly wiped his hand over his face. He really did not want to do this now. He looked pleadingly at Ishaan.
'Ma, I will tell you everything. Why don't we go to your room, while Dada looks after Isha?'
Indra heaved a heavy sign as the duo left the room. Indra slowly walked to the bed. Isha was sleeping peacefully. He carefully picked up her arm. Indra had managed to give her a sponge bath after Ishaan had finished his examination. He gently picked her arm up and placed a chaste kiss on her knuckles.
'I will make it up to you, I promise'.
He sat there looking at her. His mind went back to the night they spent together on the same bed not so long ago. This is where she belongs, in his bed, in his heart. He just hoped she stayed. Hoped she forgives him enough to begin a new life with him.
His phone beeped to get him out of his thoughts.
It was a Raghu.
'Karta, we have got them'
Indra's hands tightened ominously on the phone. It's payback time.
