A hundred years ago the Banerjee's held all the land around the village, as far as the eyes could see. Before independence, sensing the mood of the country, most of the land were sold off to venture new factories, that were comming up on the banks of Ganges. Slowly the feudal fame gave way to great industrial prosperity that made the family one of the richest in the county. However, the family structure still remain traditional.
The family now owns five-star hotels, a dozen tea-estates in the Himalayas, numerous office buildings in Kolkata whiche were rented out as multi-national offices. Rumor has it that their wealth amounts to hundreds of crores. However, all of this is managed by the males and the females of the family.
The village owes its hospital, school and a small library to the Banerjee family. Even now if any of the villagers fall into trouble, they head for the mansion that looms like a mountain across the lake.
The older generation is now retired, leaving the reign of the business in the capable hands of their sons. At the moment most of the family has gathered in their anchestral mansion to celebrate the puja. Hence the excitement. Even if the money was not a factor, the brothers would have caused a stir in any community, let alone a remote village where they are still regarded as royalty. According to Rina, who has seen the brothers walking by the lake today, each one of the brothers were devilishly handsome and very sophisticated.
Isha contributed little to the conversation. She was too tired and too emotionally drained to participate in any discussion regarding boys. She has total aversion to tall and handsome men, which she regarded as perfect disguise for selfishness and arrogance. She seriously could not wait to get under the covers.
