Chapter I
The sky had darkened up with gray clouds. The clouds were rumbling and grumbling. In the distance bright lightning would be seen. There were many of them. Through a bedroom window you'd think that it was some sort of painting how the clouds and city areas mixed up, like they were somewhat made for each other. The trees were swaying back and forth, side by side as if they were very happy for some good weather.
Reiko groaned and growled while rolling side to side in her bed. Finally, when she couldn't take the light coming from her opened windows, she got up looking like a cat who was dropped in water. She went to her window and violently shut the curtains. As she closed the curtains she glanced up at the sky. She opened the curtains right back up and rubbed her eyes as if she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"Mom! Mom! Mom! MOM!"
Reiko's mom rushed to her room and quickly opened the door.
"Honey! Are you hurt? Are you in danger? Are you going to die?" she said frantically looking at her daughter top to bottom.
"No mom, look!" Reiko pulled her mom towards the window and pointed. "It's a rare thing... to see a rainbow before it rains." Her mom smiled looking at the edge of the horizon.
Suddenly drops of water started to pour down on the bedroom window. Reiko watched the drops fall one by one. She looked at the neighborhood street below. The streets slowly got covered in what it looked like infinity drops of rain... Soon, the whole street was dripping wet. Just as an instant went by the raindrops came thundering down. Lightning could be seen in the distant sky. The sweet smell of water came peeping around the corner. The sound of pouring rain filled the air. Suddenly thousands of umbrellas filled the sidewalks and roads, all different colored and unique. They contrasted heavily against the dull grey clouds. They all passed by quickly. Everyone had some sort of mall bag in their hand.
"Seems like a good time to shop, apparently." Reiko's eyes followed each umbrella and their appealing colorful and strangeness in awe. Suddenly she caught sight of a familiar looking umbrella.
"MOM?!"
The woman was dressed up in a raincoat with a black and white polka dotted umbrella in her hand. Walking down the street, she paused and looked up at Reiko's bedroom window. With a grin on her face, she smiled and waved. After a few seconds, she went running down the streets to catch up with her group in the crowd of people.
"You've got to be kidding me, right?!" Reiko looked down wide eyed as if she couldn't believe that her mom went running through the streets like that. "I hope she didn't lock me in the house..."
Reiko rushed downstairs and got hold of the door knob. She twisted is doubtfully. Her mother was likely to keep the door locked when she was gone. The door smoothly slid open bringing in a strong gust of wind and rain together. I think she thought twice about being overprotective today, Reiko thought. The streets were suddenly very quiet and empty. All the people had somehow disappeared. Reiko kept the door open starring at the rain. She looked about the streets.
"I'm too bored. Maybe I'll..." She thought out loud. Her eyes bounced from one place to another. Suddenly she grinned as if a light bulb had gone of in her head. "Maybe I'll just roam!"
She hurried upstairs and threw her closet door open. She looked thoroughly and pulled out some random clothing with an umbrella and a raincoat out. She put them on, once in a while checking out the window to make sure it was still raining. She didn't want to lose a good opportunity to get drenched in the rain. It was sort of her hobby.
As soon as she got out, she started her usual walking up sidewalks. Walking and walking, she watched her footsteps splash into the small puddles. As she passed by she could see her own face on each puddle she passed. Each time she could make different funny faces.
I wonder what Yukio is doing right now... He usually never gets out of his house. Maybe I'll visit him on my way of roaming...
She made her way around the trees and bushes. She had a sudden urge to look up. She glanced up and saw a big hole in the clouds, in the middle of know where. Out of it came a giant ray of sunlight which lit of the whole surrounding street. She was bewildered as she stared spellbound at it. The wind picked up speed and blew her hoodie down. She thrust her hands deeper in her pocket as a cold chill began to form around her. Under the ray there was a silhouette of a little boy standing. The figure was so dark that nothing could be made out just by looking at him. He seemed to have his head down...looking at something. The black figure was so dark that, in fact, it didn't seem to fit into the environment. Reiko rubbed her eyes in shock. She could feel there was a lot of heavy air and negative energy around the little boy. The boy lifted his bony hands and covered his face, as if crying. Reiko stood unmoving. After a while she realized that the boy was completely frozen with his hands on his face but looking down. Reiko's eyes followed the boy's gaze. A cold chill ran down her spine.
Blood.
The atmosphere turned dark.
The blood dripped from the boys face, through his hands, and onto the streets. The boy was still frozen. She reached out her hands and opened her mouth to try to help the child, but no sound came out. The boy dropped to his knees. Reiko suddenly was thrown back and she suddenly felt like she was being choked. The air around was vacuumed away and it seemed like there was none left for her. A tight knot formed in her chest. She gasped for air and closed her eyes in pain.
What's happening?! I'm being choked!
She squinted her eyes to see the boy. He was nowhere to be seen. She turned to see whether he was really gone or not. Suddenly she tripped backwards seeing the boy's dark face just a nose length away from her face. Though the sun was shining towards her face, the blackness of the boy's face was still there. The air that was even left in her lungs slowly slipped away.
Stop it! Who are you?! What do you want from me?!
She felt like screaming as her lungs burned for air.
Misaki...
A name appeared in her mind. The words hit her like stone. She had heard of the name somewhere. Millions of questions popped in her brain. Before she realized, she felt her self fading into a dark nothingness.
Will you not help me?
She felt the words quote in her mind. She felt a sudden anger and sadness in her heart. It ached painfully. She felt like she was in a torture. There was pain everywhere on her body. She closed her eyes waiting for the worst.
I'm going to die!
The black figure froze once again and withdrew away from Reiko. He hovered back to the fading ray of sunshine. Suddenly she could feel air filling up her lungs. It was as if she couldn't even blink as the greatly desired air rushed into her lungs. Her lungs were hurting as much as it was when air was being choked out of it. Finally when Reiko thought she had calmed down, she squinted, a bit surprised that she had survived, to see where the black figure went. She searched around, but the boy was nowhere to be seen.
