The wind picked up blowing small piles of dust across the streets. Reiko felt chilled to the bone as soon as the wind flew by her. The trees swayed back and forth in the darkness beyond the street lamps. Reiko walked on feeling the need to be alert.

Seems like a terrible storm’s on it way…

“What exactly did you do in the house after I went to go get my things..?”

Yukio’s voice boomed in the silence, even when the wind was blowing. Reiko glanced forward and saw that Yukio was standing by a house taking the ring of keys out of his pocket.

“N-Nothing..,” Reiko hesitantly lied looking away from Yukio’s icy stare that once again felt like it was starring right into her soul. “I just… sort of…umm…felt dizzy and fell.”

She didn’t want him to know what she had been doing. What would he think if he found out that she was going through his personal things? Reiko stood and thought for a moment.

Wait a minute…Didn’t he leave that book behind in that house?

Yukio stood still for a moment casting a sideways glance at Reiko and looked away, inserting the keys into the keyhole.

“Do I seriously have to tell you to ‘come in’ or ‘go’ all the time?”

Yukio stood by the open door tapping his foot impatiently. Reiko ran to the door and marched forward without saying a word.

As she came in, a wave of shock went through her. She expected the house to be smelly and dark, like how monkeys usually keep their rooms but instead the floor glistened with a shining crimson carpet over the entrance and going up the stairs and khaki colored carpet going into the living room. The wooden frame of the stairs gleamed in the sepia light coming from the mini chandelier hung on the ceiling by the entrance. The tiles of the kitchen, from where she could see it, glistened as well. Four to five small elegant glass bulb holders with sepia light bulbs surrounded the four corners of each room. Even within the half lit darkness of the living room she could see the elegance of the large velvet sofa that was placed in the room.

“Yeah, this is my house.” Yukio said as if he had read her thoughts.

Reiko felt like she was gonna pass out again.

I knew there was something wrong with that apple juice that mom gave me…This surely isn’t possible.

“Dinner will be ready by nine o’ clock. Be down here by then.”

With that, Yukio put his bag down and grabbing a pair of slippers, ran to the kitchen.

Don’t tell me….. He’s going to be making dinner?!

“Oh and one more thing,” Yukio said peeking from the side of the kitchen wall. “your room is on the left of the piano room. Don’t open any other doors.”

Reiko slightly nodded and calmly walked up the stairs. The wooden handles of the stairs felt so smooth that she felt like she was touching silk. Soon enough she was at the top of the stairs glancing around. There were many doors one after the other in the long hallway which was lit, not by bulbs this time, but by candles, giving the atmosphere a milky tint. It was almost tempting. Reiko shook her head from the feeling and continued the search for her room.
