Reiko noticed her eyes blur for a moment and then felt dizzy. She tried to keep her eyes still and focus but nothing would change.
Oh Crap! Something is seriously not right here…
She felt that same heartache and sadness in her heart. But this time there was something different. She felt anger as well. Somewhere deep in her mind, some strong desire was itching to be fulfilled.
Will you not help me?
She heard that voice again. It was that voice she heard just before everything went dark.
Who are you…? What do you want…?
She realized her mind was slipping from consciousness and everything was going dark again.
“Reiko...?!”
Reiko slightly turned her head, still on her hands and knees, and looked at Yukio’s silhouette. He kneeled down and looked at the shaking Reiko.
“What happened…?”
“W-Where- were you?”
“Over there, in that room,” Yukio turned and pointed to a room across the hall.” I was gathering my things, so we could get back.”
“You mean this isn’t your house..?”
“No, it isn’t.”
Reiko expected a bit of explanation but Yukio didn’t say anything.
“Umm, then… why are you – we –here?”
Yukio stopped and stood still and looked at Reiko. She couldn’t read his expression. But something told her, he was uneasy. But that made her uneasy as well, Yukio didn’t get his eyes off of hers.
“Will you get up? It’s getting dark.”
Reiko hadn’t noticed how long she had been sleeping. She remembered it was almost midday when she last checked. Now it was almost dark?
Why is he changing the subject?
“Y-Yeah...”
Yukio put forth his hand and Reiko slowly grabbed it and pulled herself up.
“Thanks...”
She felt really awkward when a strange thought of dependency crossed her mind. For some reason, she didn’t want to let go of his hand. But to get rid of this awkwardness, she let go as soon as she got herself up on her feet again.
Reiko followed as Yukio led the way towards the exit. She held her head low in silence, starring at the ground. There was a slight click and the door opened with a squeak, bringing in another small gust of wind. Reiko stepped back after they both got out. She took one last look at the room just before Yukio grabbed the door knob and shutting the door firmly and locking it. Reiko, as she took another step forward away from the door, something bothered her. She felt as if the negative energy, she was receiving from the house, was drawing her back. Something still felt awfully strange. She felt a spine tingling sensation going up her back.
“Are you gonna come or not?”
Yukio’s voice was muffled in the wind. Reiko turned around slowly and as she realized how far ahead he was, she half-ran-half-walked to him. As soon as she caught up, Yukio ambled on casually with his hands in his pocket. Reiko kept her distance strolling on behind him.
The empty streets smelled of nothing but rain. It was strange not seeing a single soul out, when on a normal day there would be quite a lot of people. Even the gangsters, weren’t around. The yellow gleam from the street lamps were the only light that made the surrounding visible. The dark alley corners were nothing but dark. Not a single inch of them could be seen. There wasn’t a single car, not a single person, not even a nocturnal critter. On top of that, the silence between the only two beings there, Yukio and Reiko, almost made the atmosphere unnerving. They just walked forward without even glancing at each other.
Well this sure is creepy now...why is that monkey so quiet?
Reiko could nearly hear her heart beat. Each breath she took was almost too loud. She forced herself to breathe slowly and quietly. She couldn’t help but look around just to make sure she wasn’t being taken somewhere else.
Eh, never mind, we’re going the right way…
Reiko breathed in, relieved.
But I seriously didn’t know, these streets would seem so unfamiliar at night…
