Snowdrift padded up to Sparkflower, a mouse hanging in his jaws, he silently dropped the prey at Sparkflowers paws and sat down himself. Sparkflower stared at the mouse before saying thanks and taking a big bite. Snowdrift nodded to the old medicine cat before speaking "I'm going to do another check."Sparkflower looked up at the old warrior "We've been looking for clan cats for days, Snowdrift, and we haven't found anyone!"
Snowdrift narrowed his eyes "But, there has to be more cats."
Sparkflower shook her head "Maybe there isn't, Snowdrift, maybe we are alone."
Snowdrift gave Sparkflower an annoyed look and leaped out of camp, determind to find more clan cats. While snowdrift was padding further in the territory, away from camp the sun was going down bit by bit. It was already some time past sunhigh. Snowdrift looked around to see if saw something, he wasn't only searching for cats but also for some prey, tho they were well fed they never could have enough because the cats had dissapeared but the prey hadn't so far.
Snowdrift had been talking with Sparkflower about what could have happened to the cats they once knew but had dissapeared some time ago. They had been thinking about twolegs and foxes or badgers, but it couldn't be that all of them were taken or attacked by their rival animals. They were still mourning about their losses, they knew most of the cats all their lifes...
Snowdrift kept saying that there are still cats out there, but after a while Sparkflower started to doubt that and accepted that they could be the only ones still alive.
Snowdrift was since then searching as much as he could for surviving cats while Sparkflower was staying in camp to protect the prey and herbs. Snowdrift had been learning sparkflower some new fighting moves so that she could fight cats when needed to.
After walking a while padding in his territory he started to walk to the river between Shadowclan and Thunderclan. He padded up to the stream and started to lick the water, it wasn't that cold because the warm weather. He decided to go further and search for cats though he already had searched many times in his territory. He thought 'I should search in their own territories much more..'
Snowdrift took one last sip of the water and continued on the path he had been walking on. 'May as well hunt.' he thought to himself, he sniffed the air, looking for prey. He quickly picked up the scent of mouse and followed it to an oak tree. He noticed a mouse sitting down, biting on a hazel nut, he went down into a crouch and moved closer to it, before leaping at it.
Just before he touched the mouse, a she-cat padded into the clearing, scaring it away"Hey that was my catch!" he spat at the she-cat.
He then gasped as he noticed who this cat was, the former deputy of Windclan, Mousetail but not only that but she looked like she was expecting kits.
"Mousetail?" he gasped looking at the cat "Your alive!".
"Alive and expecting kits." Mousetail mewed Snowdrift looked behind her wondering if anyone else was there.
"I'm alone." Mousetail mewed, following his gaze "Are you with anyone?" she asked Snowdrift hopefully.
"Yep, Sparkflower! Follow me." he said as he started to head back to camp.
Snowdrift was running through the bushes at high pace, not knowing Mousetail couldn't follow.
Snowdrift was running through the bushes at high pace, not knowing Mousetail couldn't follow while expecting kits. Snowdrift eventually stopped after figuring Mousetail couldn't follow.
"Don't forget I'm expecting kittens, Snowdrift! I am much slower then you are," Mousetail meowed from behind a bush, walking to Snowdrift. "Are we nearly there yet?"
"Just you wait, we are close though." Snowdrift started to pad again to camp with Mousetail behind them. While padding Snowdrift asked, "Who is the father of those kits, anyways?"
Mousetail meowed, "Well it was Lizardclaw, the Windclan warrior . . . He died with all the others . . . I miss him." Snowdrift understood Mousetail's pain as he had also lost most of his clanmates too.
After a bit of silence Snowdrift asked, "So, you said he died with all the others. Does that mean you're the only Windclan cat left? Because there is only 1 of your clan and only 2 of ours. . ."
Mousetail meowed back, "Well I sadly think so, I haven't seen anyone for days since the event. . . still so weird; But we have to move on and I still have Windclan with me by my kittens and Starclan up there."
Snowdrift looked to the sky while meowing, "Yes. . . may they light our paths." Snowbush now came close by camp and said, "Here we are, you're now safe with us," as they walked through the open camp entrance.
Sparkflower ran out the medicine cat den seeing the two cats enter the abandoned camp. "You found someone, Snowdrift! And not just anyone! The Windclan deputy Mousetail! How are you?"
The Windclan deputy meowed, "Well as you can see, I'm alright, good and bad. Bad because all what happened and good because. . ." She looked down to her swollen belly. Sparkflower gasped and opened her jaws to reply.
"Oh thank Starclan for this gift! This must be the start of a new life! The era of the clans might not be over!" Sparkflower came closer to Mousetail and checked her swollen belly. "Go to my den, I'll check on you in a minute." Mousetail nodded and started to waddle to the medicine cat den while Sparkflower went to Snowdrift and meowed, "Fantastic work! This is a new start Snowdrift it must be!" and then she followed Mousetail to the den.
Snowdrift looked to the sky seeing birds fly past and the sun shining down on him, "Let's hope so."
