Elena Gilbert was at The Grill together with Jeremy. He had offered her some food but she wasn't hungry. To be exactly, she had not been hungry for 2 years. Wow, 2 years already. Time passed pretty quickly.

"Elena, are you sure that you don't wanna eat something? I mean it's your birthday" Jeremy asked kindly.

Elena gave her brother a smile.

"Thanks Jeremy" she answered. "I'm just thirsty and even though I have turned 20 years old I'm still just 18".

"You can drink from me, it's okay. Well, then we are almost at the same age. I'm turning 18 in October."

Elena smiled.

"Funny" she said.

Elena had never thought of that. Little Jeremy would grow old and she wouldn't. He would disappear just like everyone else. She sighed. She didn't want Jeremy to disappear. He was everything she had left, and Alaric too of course.

"What is it?" he asked and started to look worried.

"It's just ..." Elena started. "Never mind"

"Come on, Elena. Talk to me"

"I'm afraid, Jer. I'm a vampire, I won't grow old like you. I'll never be able to raise a family. I'll never know how it feels like being pregnant. I never wanted this. I want to grow old, get kids and watch them grow up. But now, when I'm a vampire ... It's all gone."

Jeremy saw that his sister was unhappy about being a vampire. She hated to hurt other people but sometimes her blood thirst took over. Always she became remorseful if she had hurted someone. Jeremy took Elena's hand in his.

"I'm sorry that I can't change the fact that you are a vampire. Sadly, I don't understand your sadness, but I bet it sucks. But I'm here for you, will always be. Today is your day, and we're going to have a great day." Jeremy answered.

Elena smiled. He was right. Today wasn't the right day to be worried about the future. It was her day and she didn't mind to spend it with her little brother.

"I love you" she said tenderhearted.

Jeremy stood up and gave his sister a hug.

"I love you too, sis"

"Hi, guys. How are you doing?" they heard a familiar voice say.

Alaric showed up from nowhere.

"Hi Alaric, what's up?" Elena answered.

Alaric took Elena's hand and gave her a gift.

"Happy birthday!"

"Oh Alaric" she said embarrassed. "You didn't have to"

"Of course I had to. You're like my daughter"

Elena and Alaric sat in his car. They were outside the Salvatore's house. She was tired. No, tired wasn't the right word, she felt exhausted in some way. Even though it actually was her birthday she felt like it wasn't something special. She just wanted to go to bed, so she didn't have to stay up and be bored. Maybe put some comfortable clothes on too.

"So, Elena" Alaric said. "What are you gonna do?"

Elena shook her head in confusion.

"What I am gonna do?" she asked.

"Yeah?"

"Uhm ... nothing, I guess. Maybe just go to sleep"

She saw how Alaric rolled his eyes. So what if it was her birthday? Nothing to celebrate anyway. What did he expect her to do? Have a party? No way. Elena opened the car's side door. Alaric grabbed her arm.

"Let me at least follow you to the door"

Why did he act like this? Elena just nodded. They went quietly toward the front door. She was about to open the front door when Damon came out of the house with a glass in his hand.

"Good evening, people! Nice to see that you came Alaric" Damon said and winked to Alaric.

Alaric nodded towards Damon. And then Damon turned around and looked at Elena. He embraced her lovingly and kissed her softly. Elena felt the smell of spirits and heard music inside the house. She frowned her eyebrows.

"Damon ... What's going on?"

He took her face between his hands.

"Elena, it's your twentieth birthday. Did you really think that we would ignore it?"

Elena shrugged her shoulders.

"That was what I had hoped" she answered.

Damon shook his head.

"No, no sweetie. Ey Alaric!"

Damon raised his glass towards Alaric.

"Cheers buddy!"

Alaric smiled.

"Cheers"
