"Why does it have to be this way?"

That question always echoed through Zak and Darryl's heads as they would meet up in the middle of the night. Sometimes, they would both sleep in. Sometimes, only one would sleep in, leaving the other hoping for them to wake up. But when they both woke up in time, they would always enjoy the three hours they had together before the sun would rise up into the sky, starting a new day.

But as in all stories, you can't stay young forever.

~6 years later~

"Darryl?" Zak asked one night while they were both gazing at the stars in the moonlight.

"Yeah?" Darryl asked back, turning his head to face Zak.

"Would you ever want to- like- run away with me? I've been thinking about doing it for a while now, but don't want to leave you behind.."

"About that, Zak, I've been meaning to tell you something important" Darryl says, sitting up.

"What is it?"

"Well...about you saying you don't want to leave me behind...I have to leave you behind"

"You WHAT!?" Zak says, shocked at the response his friend just gave. Did Darryl not care about him anymore?

"Our parents found out about what we're doing Zak. We were caught. And now? Now my parents are sending me away longer to that royal school I told you about before. They said you are a bad influence to me, and want me to forget you ever existed." Darryl said, looking down at the ground not wanting to hear what his friend's response was going to be.

"You-you're leaving? When?" Zak said, stuttering. He didn't expect his friend to leave this early, especially on such a short notice.

"Tomorrow night, I'm packing today. Meet up with me tomorrow at 8:00PM to say goodbye, our parents are allowing it."

~Timeskip to tomorrow cause idk what to write lmao~

"Promise you won't forget me?" Zak said while hugging Darryl tightly.

"I won't, I promise. You don't forget me either, you muffin." Darryl chuckled, trying to laugh off the pain that was in his heart.

"I'll see you in four years my friend" Zak said, letting go of the hug and seeing Darryl walk away. Tears ran down Zak's face as he saw his best friend disappear into the sunset.

"I will never forget"

Ahhhhhhh I'm sorry for not updating in so long I just got back from vacation and after I promised myself to write on the car ride there and back, I didn't and instead read other people's fanfics lmao
